Yes I know that might sound like a silly question, but I'm very interested in stepping up to one of these and I'd like to have some idea of what I'm in for if I do.
If you have any other advice about this engine (best carb, header size etc) feel free to pass that info along as well.
TIA for all helpful replies.

Yes, it is a silly question.
I took my vette out for a good country run a fortnight ago.....
It has a bit more poke than the zz383 (enginefactory 383-475hp)
A bit of inner city driving, a bit of powering through some hills.... a number of WOT runs to over 100 mph leading a pair of C5's then followed by a steady state 70mph trip home on freeway and a bit more city traffic.
Managed to get 200 miles before refilling with 54 litres.
So that's 14 miles / US gallon
or 16.8 miles per imperial gallon.
This is with a 3.36 diff and a 0.82 OD manual box
Considering when I was running my 327 auto on a similar run, I was only getting about 150 miles on a tank full with less of a grin factor , I reckon it's bloody fantastic.
Don't be concerned about the fuel economy.
Build the car up for the way you want to drive it.... you won't regret it.

My 383 is pulling a little more HP and I am averaging 9~13 mpg with mostly back road country driving. I love to go through the gears so I don't look for high mpg. I could probably get to 15 but that is not why I have the car.
