Increasing power to a stock 79 L82
Are these advertised things like under-sized accessory pulleys, high energy ignition systems roller rockers or even headers worth spending the money on to increase power? I broke a valve spring and had to have the heads redone and when I put it back together I put a edelbrock performer intake, edelbrock 600cfm carburator and dual exaust on my car and it seemed to help some with performance. I'm not trying to build a race car but would like to know if I should even be concidering these changes or not? :smash:

You need a cam to go with those mods already done and headers will help.
Underdrive systems and high output ignition will give you a little more than squat.
Eventually you will tear it down and put flat top pistons etc. in it and you will notice a real difference, but if budget is limited I would say headers would be next but don't expect a great gain.

Note, that the posting heading says it's a '79 L82, if that's the case, he already has flat top pistons. Agree that a set of 1 5/8" tube headers and a good dual pattern / new technology camshaft would be two things which would provide good power increase.

I don't agree with the addition of side pipes for power, in many cases these can hurt, sound cool, but, to many bends.

The first things that really woke my 79 L-82 was a crane cam and high flowing 64 cc heads. Compression is what they really need.

gkull is right. The L82 is a good building block, but the heads are cam are old tech. You've done the right things to improve the engine you have (small double pumper holley woke mine up even more).
But at the end of the day you can only go so far with the L82 cam and heads. I pulled my engine and installed a ZZ4 with roller cam, but so so L98 aluminum heads. ZZ4 runs circles around the old L82 though.
I plan on building the L82 in the future with roller cam (some block mods required) and aftermarket heads
