Default Tires for 17 inch rims

Spring is here and my 79 comes out of storage next week!

I have a set of American Racing Torq-Thrust II's, 17x8 inch.

Any suggestions on the best tire size and brand? Car currently has stock suspension.

Thanks,

Adrian

I like my Kuhmo Ecsta SPT's in 255/50-17 they are the correct diameter for the car and are excellent in dry and wet...and a good value too. thought the ones in the image are slightly smaller as I run a staggered setup on my car.

...with the 255/50-17's except I run Bridgestone Potenza RE750's on all 4 corners.

255/50/17 is a popular size for 17's. I actually run a little smaller of a tire on the front at 245/45/17, but that would be too small for the rear.

Kumho has really impressed me with their tires. I run the Ecsta MX which isn't available in 255/50/17. I have heard good things about the Ecxta SPT's also. Those are available in 255/50/17.

I've got my eye on some Fuzion ZRi tires in 255/50/17 when my Goodyears bite the big one.

I'm running 235/50/17 Michelin Pilot Sports. I absolutely love these tire's handling capability, but they do have a low wear rating.

Same wheels exactly... Potenza 255/50R17's in the back and 245/45R17 in the front. car is also lowered 2.5 inches and still clears - but it's tight.
