Default Uneven tire wear - Fronts

Both front tires on my 1981 are wearing on the inside only - tread depth runs from 6/32 outside to 2/32 inside. What is causing this - toe in or something else? Having it aligned next week.

I'd have to agree and say "alignment". Since the wear is on the inside of the tires, I'm guessing camber more than toe problems. Your alignment guy should be able to set you straight. Hopefully, you're brining it to someone familiar with Vettes.

Good luck -

PS - you might also have worn steering gear. Check it out before you go for looseness...

tell the tech the camber is too negative and you need it set to 0.0 degrees. problem solved. he may have to charge a little extra for labor/shims but shouldnt be more than 125.00 all together and take no more than one hour.

Thanks guys. I'm hoping the alignment fixes the problem and will have them check the items mentioned. The car has never been aligned in 26 years. Only 34,000 miles on it. The car also has a "wandering" feel to it, so I'm thinking alignment is over-due.

I can almost assure you that there are worn parts that will have to be replaced first!

A good alignment shop won't even start an alignment before checking all the suspension parts. Ball joints, tie rods, springs etc. While you are there have them do the rear as well as it has been some years since it was done last. I just had mine completely done as I change to smart struts and it cost we $130.00.

Will have everything checked, but do you really think so at 33,000 original miles?

Default Alignment!Worn Parts

As mentioned already, worn parts or an improper alignment.Any quality alignment shop will check your front end for worn parts and if you have worn parts they will not perform the alignment until repaired.

Had car front and rear aligned yesterday. Everything was nice and tight and the bushings looked almost new. He said the right lower ball joint has a speck of play, but nothing to worry about. Car tracks nicely. Hopefully tires will wear evenly now. Took about 2 hours.
