Default How do you remove the chrome trim around the t-tops?

Stripping the car down for new paint and I need to know. It looks to me like you knock those little chrome pieces forward and the chrome strips will then come off.

Once the rubber is pulled off, remove any screws and any rivets, then use a wooden stick or such to tap them off. The tops should have a slight ridge around them where the chrome trim is, do not sand that ridge down, it helps keep the chrome trim snug.

Default Holding "tabs/indentions"

I removed the trim from my 69 T-tops and found out there are little indentions that have been pressed into the lower edge of the trim. They shaped so they have shape points that keep the trim from coming off. I'd recommend a thin shim be hammered/pressed under the trim to press these up away from the glass the the trim just slides off.

Mine didn't seem to want to come off easily, so I thought to leave well enough alone. I just masked them with tape. and used a razor to cut the tape edge at the trim edge. It came out pretty nice and the paint covered well.

The trim is Stainless Steel and polishes up very nicely. The side piece and short connector are pop-riveted in place. The front piece is 'crimped' in place and pretty difficult to get back on without screwing up the new paint. My car was COMPLETLY apart when it was painted and the painter still recommended leaving that piece in place on the top panels.

Alan
