Vortec Heads and Intake

Burning Brakes
Just completed Vortec Head Change
You can go to Summit, Jegs or SDparts where I got mine:

The best route might be having DurangoBoy get a lead on a used set and have them worked on at a local machine shop.
Good luck.

I'll be happy to help you locate a set close to you. All I need is your ZIP and I can try to find a cheap set of used Vortec heads in a salvage yard within driving distance to you.
The intakes are cheap on Ebay.

I didn't find anything cheap within driving distance but I did find some good prices that will justify the cost of shipping.
Here are a couple options, just call them tomorrow, find out things like mileage, if they are complete, and verify the price. The cheap ones might be bare heads or high mileage...so just ask questions.

Yes, the exhaust pattern and position is almost exactly the same. It's a tiny bit higher, but I have not seen a stock setup, headers, or side pipes NOT fit. Everything has bolted up. The big difference is the port shape, but even that's not going to make a difference for most applications.

Very true, the limit is around .470" lift. However, this can easily be remedied with kit up to .550" and after that they'll need machine work to accept higher lift. Obviously when you get that high though...with any heads, you need to have the seats done, and screw in rocker studs.

I still don't get the reason to spend money on used core heads, shipping and another $300 or more for machine work and parts when you can buy them new for around $500/pair.

Vortec Heads and Old Exhaust Manifolds
I used the old exhaust manifolds and only had to grind off the nubs at the top to clear the new valve covers. Take a look.

Also, I think Scott is right, if you have been around the block like DurangoBoy you can save $$ with the right stuff, his builds prove that. But if your a first timer, you may want to get new ones.
