Power Antenna Ground Strap...
How important is the ground strap that come off the bottom of the power antenna? I have a 79 and my bolt broke off in the bottom of the antenna casting. Do I need to ground to the antenna? What else can I ground to? I am refering to the driver side ground strap at the rear of the car going to the antenna.

The power antenna is electrical...it needs a ground. Even if it's a non-power antenna, it needs to be grounded to receive anything. Antennas need a ground plane to receive adequately. They're self grounding on a metal car...a fiberglass car needs a separate ground wire run.

The power antenna will go up and down just fine without the ground strap, BUT the radio reception might suffer.
Hook the ground to one of the aluminum housing cover screws.

OK, I'm assuming your talking about the early 79 aluminum case antenna. The screw right near the stud will work, ya might hafta squish the cable connector.
What's holding the bottom of the antenna in place now?

Yeah, that totally slipped my mind. That bolt holds the antenna in place at the bottom..... crap. I pretty much need to get that bolt out of the bottom. There is a little bit sticking out. I can probably tig weld a piece of threaded rod to it and get two jam nuts to pull it out or I can just tighten it down with the extention I put on it. What do ya think.
