UH OH! Looks like a clearance problem!!! Longer rods?
HELP! All was well.... went to adjust the new Scorpion 1.60 Roller Rockers. Noticed that the bottom of the roller rocker is damn close to the top of the head of the screw-in 7/16 stud. :cry In fact on some I'm sure it is hitting as the adjustment got tight... :cry
I have comp-cams guide plates.
So - was I supposed to have gotten longer push rods? I was running a mostly stock type set-up. I have not changed the cam. I did change to Dart Iron Eagle Heads :)
Am I right? Anyone that went from stock rockers to fancy full rollers with guide plate find they needed longer rods? 0.100" longer?
It was going so well....
Jim :cry

Yes. .100+ are the way to go if you don't have enough adjustment.

Are you running an aftermarket roller cam?
You need to check your installed heights...
If you are installing the roller rockers to allow more RPM, I'd look into some aftermarket pushrods (hardened) and guide plates.. Smallblock guys really love to BUZZ their motors!
I can recommend a book with the information you need..
"How to Build and Modify Chevrolet Small Block V-8 Camshafts and Valvetrains" by David Vizard
Motorbooks International - PowerPro Series

Wow Shawn - what's under that monstoer hood?
I used to have David Vizard's book - vanished - so I looked at some at Borders last night, including his. Also did some other probing and got
some confirming info from a club member.
I'm off to the perf parts store in a moment for new push rods... I do have
CompCams guide plates, hyd lifters, but not a roller cam. I'll either get +.100 or +.160... hardened....
Thanks,
Jim

Click on my web page link in my sig..
to many mods to type in..
Going twin turbo next summer - if and when my TDY is over!
Can't wait to be back in the USA!
Get a dial guage and measure according to David Vizard's recommendations..
don't trust the partsman for this number.. I'm not an engine builder - just learned from way too many mistakes.

Solved! Got Comp Cams +0.100" hardened push rods - valves adjusted and no clearance issues. Time to put on those beautiful new Billet valve covers :D
Happy New year,
