Default Stock frame weight?

Anybody ever weigh a stock frame? I'm doing a bunch of mods to mine (C4 suspension, and some torsional improvements) and want to see what the net weight impact turns out to be. Also, I was interested in comparing the stock frame weight with some of the high dollar replacement frame weights.

Thanks.

My frame is being sand-blasted and powder-coated this coming week. I should get it back on Aug 11. I can weight it at that time assuming that you can wait that long. It is a 68 frame if that matters.

Thanks. Yeah, I can wait. I'll probably still be welding on it for quite a while yet. My frame is a '69, so I can make some guesstimations about the minor additional brace weight in the rear kickup area. Just out of curiosity, how are you weighing it?

Going purely by memory . . . I believe a bare mid-'68 up (has the gussets for stiffness out back) frame comes in at 280lbs.

When I'd stripped my '76 frame right down I was able to lift it on my own using straps round the frame and over my shoulders. It was heavy but not that heavy. I'd be surprised if it was as much as 280 lbs - I'm pretty sure I couldn't lift that much on my own.

Later C3 frames ('79 and up?) used thinner metal so they should be lighter than mine. I don't know enough about the differences between a '76 frame and a '69 to be more accurate than that.

I bought a couple of bathroom scales from WalMart the other day, and stuck the frame on top of them this afternoon. Came up with a total of 320 pounds. I'm estimating I've got about 25-30 pounds of additional gussets and tubing in the frame to increase the torsional stiffness. When I started doing the mods for the C4 suspension I was amazed how easy it is to flex these frames when you anchor them down and put some weight/torque on different parts of the frame. I hate adding any additional weight to a car (thankfully all this weight is low on the car), but I'm hoping the additional torsional stiffness will help the suspension work better.
