worthless rubber flex radiator hose!! Parts houses carry molded?
WAs enjoy a nice evening ride and started seeing water on the windsheild. Pulled over and the Cheap upper flex hose I got from Advance had started rubbing the alternator pulley. This thing has always been long but I have never had it rub.
Luckily I was only about 3 miles from my parents and was able to get there with a little water left. The temp guage never went over 215. I was able to duct tape the hole let it cool off and then fill it back up with water and drive it the short distance home.
Do any of the parts houses carry the molded hoses or is this something I will have to order to get the right fitting one for a '71 big block?

Save yourself some aggravation and order one from somewhere like Dewitt's. I was able to find a lower hose for the 72 at AutoZone fairly easily but they only had a couple of part numbers for the upper hose for multiple years and none of them fit. No luck at NAPA either. You can also buy some spring-type covers for the flex hose that can be bent into shape and will keep the hose from moving around. And there is the always reliable Duct tape.

All the local Auto suppliers NAPA /AutoZone,
can order the correct hoses, they can get them in about 2 days.
No it won't say GM on it, but they won't rub either.

Part number NBH7689, $18.39 plus tax. I like NAPA hoses because they are made by Gates.

I just finished installing new motor mounts. The drivers side was broken and the passenger side was about to break. I checked the transmission mount and it looked solid.

I found that on my 79 the upper hose came into contact with the alternator belt also. It rubbed a hole in the hose also. The next time I put the upper hose on, I left it loose and put both ends in place. I then gave each end a little twist that kept the hose up away from the belt. You can also cut a 3 or 4 inch section out of the old hose and split it down the middle. Wrap this section around near where the belt goes by. This should protect the hose for a while.

I've found all the hoses I've needed at Autozone....
..and those guys have been kind enough to let me roam around and look thru the whole batch. NAPA also let rummage thru their stuff. For my SBC 68 I found out that a 77 Corvette upper rad hose fit BETTER than the proper hose....just by trimming the length a bit. NAPA has always been good about getting me the proper hose. Also, last time I was looking for lower radiator hose, Carquest had it in stock.
