Default 268H High Energy vs. XE262.....cams

I have looked over Comp Cams site and have come to the conclusion that if one wants to use the XE262 (xtreme energy) it would be necessary to pretty much rebuild the entire valve train.... Right?

On the other hand, although it is recommended that you replace old worn stock springs with new, during a cam swap on a low mileage engine , with the 268H High Energy Cam, stock valve train components are sufficient..... Right?

If this is so, I am thinking of going with the High Energy. Thoughts and suggestions anyone....?

The 268H High Energy will work w/ stock springs w/o replacement esp. on a low mileage engine. NOTE- Max. safe rocker ratio would be 1.52. Stock is rated at 1.5.

Do you have a manual trans.?

Although I understand it is only the valve springs that need replacing with the XE262, my double hump (461 casting) heads have screw in studs, retainers, locks etc...but this is how my engine builder set them up. He was using the Comp Cams springs anyway, which was deliberate, so no change required for me.

Yes Ganey its a 4speed. You previosly answered my post asking what cam to use for a swap and liven up the engine alittle. You suggested the 268H or the XE262 for my application. After looking at Comp Cams site, they specifically state that new components should be used for an xtreme application. They scared me.... I trust and value your opinions, originally I was set on the xe262 without changing any components. After visiting their site I thought I should stick to the 268H. I really just wanted to wake up the car alittle while replacing timing gear, water pump, fuel pump and detailing my way out from under the hood. The car is all apart, cam is out, everything went smoothly, just trying to make the right decision....

You would be fine w/ 268H High Energy. You need new lifters for either.
XE262 needs new valve springs as Doug said.
