Transmission - Will reverse but not kick down into drive
My transmission recently started slipping and as of today will not kick down into drive. I fear it’s on its way out, but I’ve read some things about vacuum and solenoids to the transmission. Is there anything else I can check before beginning to search for rebuild options?

Does the fluid look very dark and smells burnt?
Have you checked the linkage to make sure it is actually moving the transmission lever on the case into drive?
Have you checked the carburetor linkage to make sure the cable is correctly adjusted?
If it has been slipping and now wont move forward, in all probability it's time for a rebuild.
There are no external solenoids or a modulator failure that would prevent it from moving forward.
