Default CA legal headers w/air injection emission ports

Does anyone know who sells headers with the smog air injection for an 81, and CA legal to pass the emissions testing. I know Hedman sells headers where you have to drill the holes in the headers to install/weld the smog injection kit. Anyone sell them already pre made?

i got a set from here for my 76 and they make them for all years to replace the factory exhaust manifolds woth NO modifications. they are expensive but the quality reflects the price. the customer service is great also and everyone that i spoke to was very nice and knowledgeable.

You might also look up J. Bittle (JBA) in San Diego.....he used to do exclusively Ford stuff but started branching out several years ago and his headers are some of the best pieces out there; very nice. He even had a '69 427 vert parked in front of his pit at the Coronado Speed fest a with a big 'JBA' sticker on the windshield so I know he's at least doing some C3 parts.

I use Hedman #68301. The Dyno shop will sell you a heat riser for the header collector.

I use the same and the Dyno Shop sold me a heat riser for the header collector. No welding required tubes already mounted

without a BAR label OE number attached to them you can be assured a smog technician will fail your car simple as that. Sorry to disappoint you.

If you have headers with all the attachements best you can hope for if its failed is to take it to the state referee. I did that years ago with a set of Hedmans on a Blazer with a 350-454 swap and they passed it. Had the fittings, went to Pep boys and bought a universal air pipe kit, hooked everything up and got a sticker.
That was many years ago so who knows whats changed.

10 years in CA 5 smogs at test only station (usually the strictest) not once has the LACK of an BAR label or OE number been an issue.

If everything is connected and working you have very little to worry about.

Thanks for the info. Did the air injection ports come already installed or did you have to put those on yourself? Second question, did you have any problems with an exhaust shop to put those on. Did they connect the remainder of the exhaust with out any grief? If so any recommendations on shops that could.

Here is what Iam running into, they make headers to fit the 81 with air injection ports. But they tell me they are not CARB approved. The CARB approved only go up to 80. I would hate to spend all that money, have to adjust the rest of the exhaust pipes to fit the new headers and it not pass smog.

I agree with you. Would like to put some on my 81 but dont want problems at the smog shop. Since the 81 has manifolds that look a bit like headers they may not notice though, thinking they are stock.

these headers form Hedman have the AIR tubes already installed. The shop that did my exhaust had no issues connecting up a custom exhaust system to these headers.. the system consists of a custom front y-pipe with smooth merges from the 2 1/2" head pipes to a 3" single pipe, through a hi-flow 3" cat and then back out through another smooth y to 2 1/2s and mufflers.

This system has been smogged once since installed - no issues.

You presume then, that is the condition that the smog tech sees it in...

Happy now?

In California I would call that a win.

However I would get a Emissions sticker from Ecklers. Get the Federal emissions sticker that does not require AIR injection.
