Default 74 Exterior Black. What is the trim code?

I am interested in a 74 vette that is black on the exterior. The owner (who is the orginal owner) is saying that it was special ordered from the plant with 454 engine and many other options. Does anyone know if black was an option even on a special order for 1974. Thanks

I would check the trim tag for the paint code.

The trim tag will tell all because I believe that a custom color would mean a trim tag reflecting that.

1968 and 1969 shared code 900 Tuxedo Black. Black was not offered again until 1978, code 19.

IF the tag reflects a black I don't think it would be a code 19. The tag is what is important.

Might say 'spec' or 'prime'.

Hello Sam,
What documentation does the original owner have about this Corvette?
What is the Chevrolet dealer name and state where the car sold new?
What is the information on the trim tag?
Keep us posted to find out what happen in 1974.
Regards,
Drew Papsun

I talked with the owner on the phone last night and the trim tag has been removed. Per the owner, there were 30 vettes ordered in 74 with no paint or with special custom paint. The owner makes it clear to me that he has no prof that his car is one of these 30 vettes. The owner did state this this car was judge by NCRS many years back, this is when the first owner had the vette. The first owner is past away now..

Is there a process to figure out if this car was originally ordered black?

Thanks

How about the build sheet? Might still be on the gas tank. Personally I would be crawling all over this car with a flashlight in hand. Even my very well painted Red 77 has signs that it was once Corvette Orange. If it was another color I think you can find traces of it. But proof would have to be documentation and it is of concern to me that the trim tag has been removed.
In my huble opinion.

Just by chance if I found the build sheet, and it was ordered from the plant as exterior black paint, how much additional value would this add to the vette?

That would depend on it being for sale and how much that color is worth to the buyer. As it sits even if that color is the original color I don't think there is a baseline for additional worth unless there is a buyer who is interested in the unique custom order color.

Hello Sam,
You were not clear at first about owner comments being second had information since you posted later he is dead. The current owner is what number past owners? Where is the trim tag now? Who had removed it? The tank sheet maybe still on the tank. Hopefuly it is in readable condition if found.
NCRS has judging past history service available.

Hello Sam,
I have some more questions about this black 1974 Corvette.
1. What is the VIN?
2. What are all the numbers stamped on the engine pad?
3. What color in the interior and material?
4. What type of transmission?
5. What is the selling price?
Regards,
Drew Papsun

With a missing trim tag, any possible additional value is more than wiped out.

I always do that. I was born in '78 so I always type that when I mean '77.
