Vortec Plugs??
What spark plugs are you guys using who have converted to Vortec heads? I was considering using the AC Delco R43LTS but it seems hard to find.

I like NGK brand. Since some cases are unique, just call the NGK tech support line and they will ask you what your engine configuration is and suggest the best plug for your application. It will be best suited for the specific head design, compression, and heat range depending on the IGN system. Great support they offer and I got the est plug for my engine that way.

The manual that came with my GMPP ZZ383 engine which uses GM aluminum "fast-burn" vortec heads specifies R44LTS for "general use" or R42LTS for "racing." I've been using the R44LTS which appear to be functioning fine after several inspections.

If you have GM iron vortec heads on your sbc ... ask for plugs for a 1998 GMC or Chevy C1500 pickup with 5.7 liter motor (350) and with VIN code eighth character "R" ... All those are iron head vortec 350 motors. FYI, on modern cars/trucks the eighth character within the VIN identifies motor.
I like Autolite, Bosch, Denso, Motorcraft & NGK plugs ... I don't go for the fanciest exotic metals either ... no more than $3-$6 each. Always check & set gap per YOUR year model tuneup spec.

I purchased my vortec heads back around 2000 from a shop in Charlotte, NC. The owner claims that he worked with the guys from Sallee Chevrolet who helped create the vortec heads. I made a bunch of dyno pulls on his dyno after installing the vortec heads. Anyway... he suggested that Autolite plugs showed the best performance on the dyno when using vortec heads.
