Big Vacuum Test, Reading 11 at Idle and 5 in Drive
The 454 has the Cam .055 lift and 292 Duration, As you know my original problem was a very rough idle and poor power brakes, unless I put the trany in “N” before stopping. The recommendation from the board for the power brakes fix was 1) Add a remote Canister “ not enough vacuum, the local speed shop said even the canister needs at least 11. It seems the only real solution is to buy the electric vacuum pump it will provide a constant 21 of vacuum. Just an after thought rather then rebuilding the vacuum Booster I should have taken it apart removed everything except the mechanical items in the booster and re-installed This would have been a cheap way of converting to manual brakes with-out the hassle of trying to find one-of parts.

What cam is this? If it's the old Comp Cams Magnum 292H, I would consider replacing it with a newer design cam. You will keep (or even increase) power with much better idle quality and vacuum. The new comp cams XE series cams have much superior lobe design.

I wonder if a set of Rhoads variable duration lifters would help your situation? They work as advertised. Increases vacuum & low-end torque. A set might cost you $65-70. That, a gasket set, some coolant and an afternoon's time.............
