Headers vs alternator & P/S Pump
A buddy of mine has a '70 with the base 350/300 engine. I see that the alternator and power steering pump both mount to the driver's side exhaust manifold. If we replace the stock manifolds with headers, or Speedway Smoothies, what do we do about the missing mounting points? Are there special brackets available?
Can someone post a picture of how they solved this problem?
Thanks,
John

a 1970 should have holes on the front side of the driver side head. Find alternator bracket 3951337 on ebay .... don't buy the first one you see....there are bunches of them and came on early 70s chevy pickups too.
I see one for 35 bucks in there right now. If you have a boneyard with old cars you can probably find it cheaper....otherwise all those ebay sellers price them ridiculously high. take a look: https://www.ebay.com/itm/23397886138...cAAOSwYDZgghvf

Yes, use the stock '72-82 bracket that attaches to the head, along with the adjustment arm. This places the alternator away from the head, no special brackets needed. You can get them from Ecklers or other vendors.
This.......
Hard to see, but this is installed on mine...........

I solved this issue on mine for the A/C compressor by buying a piece of 3/4" stainless steel bar stock on eBay, cutting it equal to the depth of the exhaust manifold minus the header flange thickness and drilling a 3/8" hole down the middle. Presto! stainless steel spacer, can even use the original bolts.

also can use stacked washers to get the correct height. or be bubba and leave them there...
