Anyone ever use this aftermarket dual snorkel cold air intake made by spectre?

I am running a zz502 BB in a 1980 with an aftermarket high-rise hood and am wondering if this would flow enough CFM to feed the 502?

I am having some performance issues that I think are being caused by the underhood temperature being too hot and I have been given a few opinions by people that I should wrap my hooker headers (I am currently doing this) and I have also been told that a CAI will also really improve the performance (but I want to here more opinions about this first).

As noted above, even with the high-rise hood, there is not much air-cleaner space left with a BB so any suggestions will help.

Trying to feed enough cold air to any engine is a challenge at best. A ram air or direct cowl vent system is a good start. Either will work. I ran a 700HP 468 with a 14"x4" K&N filter open element air cleaner in my Camaro with a sealed off cowl induction setup. It made no different weather i ran with or without the filter. So that was all the air the motor was going to get with out forcing more in with a turbo or procharger.

After doing some searching on this forum, I think I might try to fabricate a cowl induction air cleaner base like the ones below since my high-rise hood has a cowl opening in the back:





I think this will be my best option for cold air flow volume and it allows be too keep my 14"x3" K&N filter with Xtreme lid. I'll post some pics up when i have it finished.

I don't have it done yet, but I'm currently fiberglassing an airbox like the metal one above into my hood to go around my open element filter. I'll post some pics when I'm done! :]

Problem with those snorkel type air intake is there no where to run them under the hood of a C3

not true, you can run one big snorkel to the passenger side gill area and then have it breath from below by modifying the piece of metal behind the right front tire.

some of the LSX swap guys are reclining the rad back an inch or so (with elec fans) and going over the top like the C5 design.........

You could probably cut a hole in the hood and run four huge snorkels out a Pro Stock hood scoop too but that's not what I was referring to. I was talking about the dual snorkel feeding from the front

I made this with Spectre-parts. That is a low-profile plenum,
because I had problem with space under the hood.
I now how the airfilter in the grill, in front of radiator.
Works great.

I was thinking of using this low profile plenum, but facing it towards the window for racing to get the cowl cold air effect.

I like this set-up. Very cool. Quick question... Why did you opt for the single plenum opening (as opposed to the dual version of the same part)?

The dual plenum is not that low-profile, and I needed the space.

i wonder if this low profile thing from spectre shown above will allow a performer intake on a BBC to fit under the stock hood.
