Default Tire size for a 69? 225 70 15 OR?

Talking to tire vendor, 225/70/15 listed as the only fitment available for a 69. Although they have a caution to test fit as due to the height of the tire it may rub. Interesting as I know my 79 had that size from the factory, and they are on the 69 right now. I just went and looked at them.
So what size do you guys advise for a 69? All original I don't want to mod it for bigger tires but I would like to get the biggest I can with the stock setup. It's a 427 if that makes a difference in clearance due to weight.

Default I Prefer 60`s with 15 rims

I use a 225x60x15 up front on a 15x7 rim and the rears are 235x60x15 and a 69 15x8 rim. The OE tire was a F70. I just wanted a staggered look with a slightly smaller tire up front but still larger than a OE F70. I wanted to avoid the use of any wheel that would require flares to keep the tires inside the wheel wells. I hate tires sticking out or the use of air shocks to keep the tires from rubbing the fender wells. You could go slightly larger depending on your wheel selection, but I prefer a near stock external look. But extrinsic is where It stops....intrinsic is whatever you want to believe......

Now there has been several nice examples of 17 and 18 inch rims on these Vettes, but immediately recognisable as not stock. I just cheat a little bit.......But then again im a horsepower freak:.........thumbs:

I have 15x8 rallys like Ironcross and run 235-60-15 front and back. Tried to go to 245, but the backspacing these rallys have wouldn't clear in the front; however, I could've run 245's in the rear with these wheels which is what I wished I did and then keep the 235's up front.

P235 60 R15 Goodyear Eagles on 15 x 8 rallys work just fine.

I use BFG T/A radials, 225 - 70 X 15 on stock 15 X 8's. They fit and look good The T rack guy told me that the stock firestone F70's were equivalent to a 215 wide tire. My car came with good year eagle ST's when I bought it 7 years ago, 255 X 60's in the back and 245 X 60's in the front. Nothing rubbed!

I currently run 255-60-15 on the rear and 245-60-15 on the front of my 69 with no issues on stock 15 X 8 rims.

P215/70R15 is the correct cross-reference to the original F70-15 the car came with. I run them on my '69 427/435 and they fill the fender wells quite nice. My car also has non-power steering so a bigger tire would mean more steering effort even if the tires fit without issue.

Some cars will take bigger tires with no clearance problems, some won't. It's just a car by car thing.

225 (or 235) 60-15's are what you want. Goodrich T/A radials is what I would recommend. If you want a wider tire than that, you'll have to get a wider set of wheels.

I have 225/70 15s on my 68 and I like em. You can go bigger in front as long as you don't turn the front wheels.
