Default A "Genuine GM" Price Increase...

"Kick Me"... Don't you remember the white college rule paper that teens often would slap on someone's back when wanting to justify pranks and tom-foolery? Well, I feel like that unsuspecting person about right now. Back in 2001, I was curious about that '383ci 325hp 415ft/lbs small block Truck Power to go or tow...' engine for the bargain price of $2679.95 from the GM Parts sources (Scoggin-Dickey, Jim Pace, and others). Too good to be true I said. Can't be much of an engine at that price.

Have you seen the price lately (Chevy High Performance, Hot Rod, Car Craft)? It now is $3799 (and there is a March 2002 price increase right around the corner)!!! One of the mag's just ran an article on this engine and to say it cranks is an understatement. This engine that was under $3K a few months back must have been the biggest-kept secret at GM since nobody talked about it (say promoted it) until it cost closer to $4K.

God, I could kick myself for not just grabbing one of these engines when I had the chance. Sure would have saved some serious $$$ over my feeble attempts at power-adders on my anemic L48. If only....

At Sallee it is $3750.00. Not enough difference to make amount to anything.

Hmm,
I feel that way about tric flow heads. I remember when they first hit the scene at $799 complete. Now they are coat like $12-1300.

Only thing good about this whole mess is there is a lot of competition in the crate engine market that should keep the prices down :D

Motorhead,

If I didn't know better, I'd say your car is my car! Incredible similarity. Yours is jacked a little higher in the back but otherwise spittin' image of my '80 C3.

Too bad nobody ran a tech article on this engine back when it was cheaper...
