Default 1 Wire Alternator

I added twin electric fans for engine cooling and need to upgrade the alternator in my 69.
The currenrt alternator has a plug with two wires and a seperate black ground and a seperate red battery wire.
How do I install a 1 wire alternator and still have a functoning ampmeter, what do I do with all the wires?

You will find that one wire in the plug and the big red are spliced together back in the harness. leave the plug off and connect the bat wire to the one wire alt and your done.

Or just search for CS-130 and CS-144 upgrade and change to a nice new modern alternator.

I would not consider a 1 wire an upgrade.
I would suggest a high Amp Output 3 wire.
your electrical system will function better with a 3 wire.
and your amp meter will still work.

Thanks to all of your responses guys, what is the high output 3-wire?
How many amps is it, and at what RPM is it making juice?

NAPA fixed me up with a 105 amp set-up and an adapter plug. I had to remove the poly-V pulley that came on it and install my own pulley, but it works great with the fans and ampmeter.
I'll look up the part number when I get home tonight. If I remember it was less than $150 too.

stock early C3 alternator is 60 amp output.
you can even keep your orginal and install new internal parts.
to increase it to 100 amp Output alternator.
the rpm it "makes juice" at is controlled by your pulley diameter.

You might want to consider a load boss alternator from Alterstart, $129 135amp bolt in with existing eternal regulator.

that one is chrome, here's the one I have for $89 also 135 amp

When I installed a dual 11 in. fans and a trans. cooler fan and got my A/C to work again, I knew that my stock 63A alt. wont do it, I got a CS144 instead and now its handling the loads like a champ

Default You dont need a One wire

We sell a stock GM 94 amp alternator that fits a Vette like a glove or can take your numbers Case and make it into the same performance....No need to modify your stock wiring and look just for more amps by using a non stock later model GM alternator. The 94 replaces the 37-42 and 55-63 OE types......

Get the 12SI drop in-version. Works just dandy w/my dual spal 11" fans.

Original 10SI:

The 94A 12SI that replaced it - after I pulled it apart and had the case chromed. Make sure and keep the 12SI fan:
