tork converter question 1980
how do you know if your car has the lockup conveter?
the only harness going down to my trany hooks in to the connector right at the shifting paw on the trany and i think this is the backup switch wiring.
i have a 1980 with 350 tubo trany
no other wire connectors down there.
is this lockup built into the converter?
thanks for the help

Assuming that your car is stock, the only 80's with a lockup are the LG4 CA Vettes with a 305 rather than a 350.
I'm not even positive that they came with it. Pretty much the only Vette with a TH350C (with a lock up converter) is the 81.

My 80 L82 350 came with the lockup converter and as far as I know all 80's did to meet new mileage requirements. The vacuum switch should be on the firewall. The solenoid kept getting blocked on mind so I pulled it off the valve body so it would act as a normal turbo 350.
I hav since moved to a 5 speed.

All 1980 models came with a TH350C which had the lockup that occurred around 30MPH, or so I thought. My (non-Cali) 80 has a lockup converter in it and it is the tranny that was in the car from the factory.

My 1980 Corvette also had a 350C from the factory. I bought the car in 1983. The backup wiring switch is located at the shifter not the transmission as you mention.

if its working you will feel it and see it on tach. count your gears 1,2,3 then sit on 50 and after 5 seconds or so cruising on flat ground you should drop 200 rpm and feel somehting similar to a 4th gear grabbing. if you have a non loc up TH350 it will have no wiring going to trans at all. just a shift cable and a kickdown. loc up will have the wire.

this is not for your loc up. its your vacum modulator for kickdown. the hose should go to a constant vacum point most likely on carb. if you disconnect this hose or cap it your car wont shift gears till 5000rpm in every gear.
