Need advice for my 383 build
I am looking to upgrade to a 383 stroker motor this winter and have some questions. I want my motor to give the most power possible with still having decent drive ability. I do not drive the car much and when I do its mostly driven hard and see's the track 2-3 times a year. But I do like to take it for cruises now and then.
I already have an edelbrock RPM top end package- flat tappet cam(234/244 @ .050 lift), manifold, and heads. 750 mighty demon carb, 3000 stall, 3.70 gears, headers, exhaust, rocker arms, electronic ignition. I am looking to upgrade my cam to a hydraulic roller by comp which is there xtreme energy with a 242/248 @ .050 lift or the voodoo cam with 243/251. I would have my heads ported if people think it will help make more power with the larger cam and increased engine size.
Will these cams be a good choice or will they be to big for street car?

Those cams are pretty big, but based on your intended usage either of them should work well.
Your heads are pretty small for a hot 383. If you are willing to spend the money on porting it would be well spent.
Of course as much as a full port job would cost you, along with a valve job, springs, etc., you may be better of selling your heads and buying a new set that are better suited to your engine.

Thank you for your reply...I just bought those heads last year but your probably right I'll try selling them and if I can do so for decent money Ill buy new heads. What size heads would you recommend 195's or 200's? Or would you go even bigger?

http://www.cnc-motorsports.com/produ...78&CtgID=25184 , internally balanced with AFR 195 eliminator heads. This kit has a reground crank but will save you a lot of $. Good vendor. I would go with the next smaller cam. That one is pretty radical for mostly street use and a hydraulic roller will be done at around 6000 RPM unless you do some upgrades on springs and lifters. If you are OK with the manners of a little more radical cam the Lunati is probably the way I would go with their upgrade hydraulic lifters and beehive springs since your buying all new anyway. We just had a thread on the spring/lifter limitations on a big hydraulic roller. Get the right parts for your intended use the first time and spend a few extra $ rather than having to do it over.

Not with that big of cam. The XR288HR is good with 10.5 to 1. Your cam choice is a quite a bit bigger. They figure 11 to 1 with 64 CC heads. I went with the same 6"rod and FT piston setup and AFR 195 heads in the 75CC size and milled them to 70 CC to get 10.4 to 1 comp and running the XE288HR.
