Default Speedometer Needle

Just noticed that my speedometer needle fluctulates (bounces?) plus and minus a few mph as I'm driving. Seems to get more pronouned as speed increases. Should I be looking at the cable or speedometer?

Should I take a look at the little gear at the transmission?

"Just noticed..." etc. indicates unlikely- should be the cable. I have already replaced more than my share of cables & gears!
The cable takes a "set" & moving it out of it's position can cause your issue & moving it back can fix.

Some try to lube the cable.

Thanks ... I have lubed the tach cable, but I do not remember doing the speedometer cable. I'll give it a try.
