Rear Shocks on '77

Rear Shocks on '77
Now that I have had the worn out upper control arm bushings and the front shocks on my '77 replaced, I am considering changing out the rears myself, the front shocks were worn and I would like to match the rear shocks with what I have on the front (KYB). No idea how old the rears are, more than 15 years by the maintenance records that came with the car. What is involved with changing the rear shocks, any special tools needed or pitfalls to encounter?

No special tools. Just socket, ratchet and combination wrench or crescent wrench. Will be a bolt, lock washer and nut on top and most likely a tall nut, lock washer and cupped washer on bottom. Pull lower mount of shock off lower shock mount and remove shock from upper mount. Shock may be stuck on lower mount by shocks rubber bushing, just tap off with small hammer. Car will not 'sink' as shocks do not support weight. You may have to raise rear of car up on stands or ramps to get to the upper bolt. Just be careful and make sure car is supported properly. mds...

What he said, but i will say this sorta related, when you go to changed out those strut rods if you haven't already. Be prepared for some fun. If you havent done them already you might want to just do that too, " while your there " You will have the shocks off anyway.
