Default zz383 the dreaded intake question

I have finally decided on my new engine, it's the gmpp P/N: 12498772. The tech notes say that for clearance problems use gmpp P/N: 12366573 dual plane intake.

Has anyone used this combination? Would an Edelbrock performer work just as well? Any other suggestions that will allow me to keep my stock hood?

Thanks

Howard

Use the GM dual plane, you will have tons of low end torque. I have never been an edlebrock fan

I have an Edelbrock Performer on my 383. It fits under the hood of my 77 using a 3 inch drop base air cleaner, with a Qjet.

Yes. I've even gone so far as to take a pic and post video of me closing my own hood because people didn't believe me. You can find it in a search.

If you've got the 75-79 hood with the bigger cowl you can fit it with a 14" open element drop base with a 3" element and the breather top plate from Summit. The biggest drop they have available, I think it's like a 1 1/2" drop or something. I've fit a Performer RPM and even a Victor Jr with that drop.

I will even trade someone for a 14" non-drop base. Since I have a blower now, I put the drop base on my boat motor, which doesn't really need the drop. If anyone wants to pay shipping both ways I'll trade.

In fact I might even sell the whole assembly, with the breather lid and everything. I've been thinking about running a small element and a scoop on the boat.

Looks like this:

you can drop base all you like but with a 3inch drop base for example your only going to have 1 inch of clearance around the throat. hell even if there was such a thing as a 7 inch drop base you would still only have 1 inch of clearance around the throat. the filter sides drop with the base but that critical throat measurement does not.

The shortest VORTEC intake I know of is pro products 52007 ... its height specs below that're not published ... the rest is ... look it up.

compare pp to edelbrock:

vortec EB 2116 A= 3.87" B=5.28" AVG= 4.575"

vortec PP 52007 A = 3.60", B = 4.90", AVG = 4.25"
