Default Should a Fan Clutch Bearing Have Any Play/Wobble?

'71 350/270.

When grabbing the outside edges my fan blades, I can make the fan clutch wobble a little bit on the shaft. Is this acceptable, or should it be replaced?

Sub Question: Where should I buy a new fan clutch? Aftermarket? Repro? does it even matter?

Thanks

There should be no wobble.
You can pick one up from Summit for a reasonable price. Check out their web site.

no wobble .
since these are probly used on many gm vehicles during that period, personally would use one from a general parts house.imho.

Enough where you can 'feel' the slight wobble. If you look close, you can 'see' the play.
Is any amount of play unacceptable?
Thanks

Is this part # specific to a Corvette?

I have a '71, which I think has some funny irregularities regarding the water pump shaft size.

Thanks again.

Not much is acceptable. The new GM clutches have no play but some of the aftermarket clutches have some play almost out of the box. I hate to condemn every one so if the play is slight I rev slowly and watch the fan blade to be sure the blade is steady going up and down in rpm.

No it came on other GM models. It was considered a HD or severe duty clutch.
Here is a link to one that has the thickness of the 88961768 but from the number I can't tell if its a GM clutch. I bought my last from my local Chevy dealer.

edit-if your bored check this thread out from a long time ago, lots of talk about this clutch, the original part number is in there to if you want to use it for a search.
