Corvettes by the numbers - need a lookup - email me !
Ok, some guys are into engines, some like to paint, wax, detail, or whatever.
We all have our 'specialties' concerning vettes. :yesnod:
Mine is Numbers !
Researching #'s on a car (expecially) vettes is my attribute, SO - post or e-mail any requests concerning #'s and I'll look 'em up, easy enough ? :chevy

How can you tell the day the car was made by the VIN? I'd like to find out when her birthday is. :)

1Z37L65423736
1Z37L65423736
Z = Corvette
37 = Coupe
L = Engine (base L48)
6 = year (76)
5 = Should be "S" for St Louis plant
423736 = build sequence starting with 400001 or the 23,736 vette built in '76 pmodel year.

Re: Corvettes by the numbers - need a lookup - email me ! (verskel)
1Z37L65423736 - yes
1976
1 = Chevrolet division (as opposed to another GM product)
Z = Corvette
37 = 2-dr sport coupe (no convt. this year)
L = engine (either L48 or L82)
6 = 1976
S = St. Louis ("5" wasn't on there until 1981 for "Bowling Green, KY")
423736 = #23736 (mid to late production)
As far as your build date - look on your trim plate (driver door hinge pillar)
....you'll see for example :
CHEVROLET B14
TRIM 404 910 PAINT
B14 is the 'build date' for Sept. 14th (1975)
so if yours is H30 that would be March 30th, 1976 etc, etc. ;)

Re: Corvettes by the numbers - need a lookup - email me ! (Clink69)
Not sure about the H but aug 8th should be right as you vin, 26562, was built Aug 69. VIN ending for July, 25875; VIN ending for Aug, 28107. Cannot explain the H.
69 was a wierd year with 15 months of production. No telling what they did that year for the month code.

Hey Clink69 :
H08 = March 8th, 1969
Total Production for '69 was 38,762 ....so 26k would place you about March-April just like your tag....no weird stuff here. :crazy:

Sorry for any :confused: on trim tags.... This will answer your questions :
A = August ('68)
B = Sept.
C = Oct.
D = Nov.
E = Dec.
F = Jan.
G = Feb.
H = Mar.
I = April
J = May
K = June
L = July
M = Aug. ('69)
N = Sept.
O = Oct.
P = Nov.
Q = Dec.
The weird stuff was that '69's were made for more than a year due to management / employee problems which led to the strike in 1970..... :boxing
This is 'not' true for all years, however, GM started with "A" for August for most years....

Re: Corvettes by the numbers - need a lookup - email me ! (Tom73)
Now I'm :confused: . who is right tom or Verskel...
Is it Aug 8 or March 8??? My Trans date code is P9K01A which is July 1 , 1969 so I thought that was about right for an August car...
It has more features from later 69s than early ones..

A = August ('68)
B = Sept. 3041
C = Oct. 6272
D = Nov. 9159
E = Dec. 11742
F = Jan. 14694
G = Feb. 17751
H = Mar. 20543
I = April 21315
J = May none
K = June 23374
L = July 25875
M = Aug. ('69) 28107
N = Sept. 30963
O = Oct. 34067
P = Nov. 36798
Q = Dec. 38762
The above are the ending VIN numbers for each month. VIN 26,562 would have been built in early Aug of '69.
[Edit: any chance that "H" could really be an "M"???)

Re: Corvettes by the numbers - need a lookup - email me ! (verskel)
Well.... we're both right :confused:
Tom's right about the Vin#
...and H 08 is supposed to represent March.
Here's my theory....your car started assembly in March (body, paint, maybe even interior) ....then the customer or dealer or whoever changed the order on the drivetrain which set it back a few months....
By the time they got everything in order it was July for the tranny, engine, etc.
Still :confused: ? - Anyway the Vin # is probably more correct as that # is not assigned officially until the car is 'complete' or at least 95%, etc. :chevy
Thanks, Tom :lol: (Are we having fun, yet ?)

I must apologize... My eyes aren't so good anymore and when I read it 3 years ago thats what I saw. I just rechecked it and had my wife do so also. She says its an "M" I can't be sure but I guess its an M.
Now all makes sense..
Thanx Chris
P.S. One other ?? if I might be so bold.. What characteristics would distinguish a BB from a SB original car besides the obvious engine. I have heard there are things to look for..

Re: Corvettes by the numbers - need a lookup - email me ! (tshort)
What can you tell me about mine: 194379s704607 ?
94 = Corvette
37 = Coupe
9 = year (69)
S = St Louis plant
704607= build sequence starting with 700001 or the 4,607th vette built in '69 model year. Engine info was not added to the VIN until 1972.
