Default Ignition lock removal 71'

How do you remove the ignition lock cylinder from the steering colume? I have the column out of the car and mostly disassembled to repaint it, but can't find the magic button to remove the lock.

ill take a stab here but im not totally sure. I think you need to put the key in the ignition switch and turn it back to the acc. posistion. Then theres supposed to be a small hole in which you insert a wire or sturdy paperclip or the like. press down firmly on the wire into the hole while turning back(counterclock wise) on the ignition and it pops free.

The old hole in the ignition lock cylinder was only for the lock when it was on the dash, not the column lock. You need to remove the steering wheel and hub, disassemble the locking plate, pull the turn signal switch out far enough to get behind it and depress a metal locking wedge on the cylinder.

It really isn't that bad. Go to http://www.corvettefaq.com and look under Suspension and Steering. There are two papers, one for T&T columns and the other for the standard (non-adjustable) columns that will help.
