Fuel Gauge Moves A Lot
The fuel gauge moves about half way depending on which way I turn as I drive. In the driveway that has a slight incline the gauge reads 1/4higher then on flat ground. The problem is you can watch it swing from 3/4 to 1/4 and then back to 1/2 as as you pull out. As you accelerate the fuel gauge needle move as fast as the tach. On turns the gauge sweeps half a tank. I usually just look in the gas cap opening to see how much gas is actually in the tank.
Is there a way to slow the movement is the needle down?
Thanks
Tom

I have the same problem on my 68, I may be wrong but I think there is supposed to be a capcitor across the gauge, I am sure some of those guage rebuilders would know.

My '74 has always done that.....dips hard towards empty when I step on the gas !!!
No....seriously it does.....and shoots towards full when I brake....I always figured it the the gas sloshing around the tank/sending unit...

My '69 has done that since the beginning if my memory is right. I have always thought it is because the gauge is not damped. The gauge needle religiously follows the movement of the float, which moves as the gas sloshes in the tank.

my 76 does that but does it in random patterns even if im stopped... ive come to realize that the high point it stops is usually where my fuel is at but i wouldnt put money on that <-- thats what my gauge looks like as i drive

Thanks for all the input. It seems that it is common on Corvettes. When I had the stock tank in my elCamino it was very steady. Is there a way to stop this on the vette?
