Default '74 Corvette Rear End Re-Assembly (Pics)

Well she's back on the ground again....I even drove her to work today ! Woo-Hoo !

Tear down thread
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...down-pics.html

Painting and cleaning thread
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...hase-pics.html

Ok...started with the trailing arms...the bolt from hell wasn't that bad this time...

Mounted the shock and one end of the strut rod...

Mounted the leaf spring...

The other end of the strut rod...

Then the half axels....(fun !)

And the Brakes...!

Bled the brakes and set it on the ground. Put it BACK it the air and eye-balled my camber...I was WAY off ! LOL !

Washed it off a little bit and put my beauty rings and center caps back on and went for a test drive..!!!!! Everything worked out GREAT...! Need to get it to an alignment shop though...but that didn't stop me from driving her to work this morning....(5.5 miles each way).

Believe it or not, the cleaning and painting. The devil's in the details....and I didn't even go nutz like some of the guys here because she's a driver - not a garage/trailer queen. But I still spent more darn time cleaning and painting than I did on tear down or re-assembly !

The half-axels were a bit of a pain because the darn caps kept falling off while I was trying to bolt it all together...not to mention there isn't a lot of room to swing a wrench in there...had to keep flipping the wrench...LOL !

Thank you...I'm very pleased with my results !

Pretty soon is my crate 383 stroker ! Woo-Hoo !

Would love to see it sometime. I see you're in Chino! I travel out to Chino from Dallas at least twice a month. My office is right there on Ramona!

6 hours to tear it apart...
15 hours cleaning and painting...
12 hours re-assembly

So why did it take me 8 weeks ???????

it will ride better if you take off the shipping clamps on the rear leaf spring, they need to be cut off with a cut off wheel, mine were only on my car for 9 years before i noticed it. The way it is right now, that rear spring will be real stiff

Nice work. Its a great feeling being able to look under the car and see all the new under there. Probably makes it even ride better. Enjoy.
