tire and rim weight.... what is yours?
Well, i finally decided on 18X8" W/4"bs for the front, and 18X9.5 W/5"bs for the rear.
I chose Centerline over Bonspeeds, because Bonspeed had an approximate weight of 31lbs, and the Centerline had an approximate weight of 21lbs... a weight savings of 10 lbs per wheel... we will see.....but what about tire weight?
i want a tire that is sticky, but not one that weights 200lbs!!!!
I also understand that the rotating mass is equal to about 3 times dead weight when accelerating and stopping...
so, it seems the tire and wheel weight is very important....
anyone have any weights? or opinions on this?
looking for tires now... :-)

The spec sheets at tirerack lists weight. Typically you'll find tires in these sizes to weigh in at 27-30 lbs. Yeah, the tire weighs more than the rim.
BTW, Centerline is still Made in USA.

Ever go to a drag strip and see allot of Convo Pro's, well there's a reason for that, the 15x8.5's I had on my Vette weighed 14lbs each

I got the same size wheel dimensions you do, and my rears with the tire on them are 64 lbs each. Not sure about the front, maybe 10-15 lbs less.
My stock 255/60/15's were 44 lbs each. So I guess the new ones are fat pigs...much bigger wheel and tire though.

but USA!!!
dont know yet... like many others here as wide as i can get, as sticky as can get, and as close to the stock hight as possible, and would like to err on the larger size, so if stock is 26.5", i would like 27"
ok, here is what stock is, and what i currently have... 44.5lbs...

You should be able to run a 285/40/18 on the rear. It's 27" tall and weighs 32 pounds in the Goodyear F1. On the front you may be able to run 265/40/18. They fit on the front of my 74 and my 80. They are 26.3" tall and weigh 28 pounds. Other brands will be similar in size and weight. The stiffer sidewall, better handling tires will be heavy

Yes what "zwede" said. The sizes that we typically run on these cars (245 - 255 - 275 - 285) range from a low of 27lbs to a high of 32lbs but depending on brand you can figure to be between 27lbs for the small (front) ones to about 29lbs for the big (rear) ones. Now you have to decide what your driving priorities are, what price range and what brand tires you want to go with. You can read the reviews at the Tire Rack and it will make your head spin.

That sucks! 18X8 doesn't give many choices. 40 series is 25.9 dia and 45 series is 27 inches. So 40 series would be best. But they need 8.5 rims for 255 width.
I've always said: " find the tires you like first and then buy the rim that fits them."

a 255 45 18 has the same size width and diameter as the current 255 60 15's according to http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html what do you think about this?
I don't have the statistical scientific data on my desk to show you, but the 245 tire on an 8 inch rim might have greater traction and less heat problems than a wider tire that would have to run at a lower tire pressure to have equal weight across the tires contact patch.
There was a reason why I bought 9 & 10 inch front wheels and 12 inch rear.

1. Right on the tire rack site click on "specs" and it will give you tire diameter, weight,.........but most importantly required rim width. 255 does not go on less than 8.5 inches yes you can be a dumb *** and put them on a 8 inch rim, but it will crown the tread.........

2. that would be cool.... no pun intended. ok....
3. guess i will have to stick to my wimpy 8" front and 10" back.... :-0.... but i did go with your suggested bs.... 4" front and 5" rear all on 18"
cant wait to weight the rims and tire combos.... I hope it is very close to stock, being that I though i was actually going to go down in weight, but now that seems to be a dream....
25# for the tire and 21 for the rim would put me at 46#,,, guess if i can get that I should be happy....
wish i knew what others were weighing in at though for 17" and 18" rims/tire combos....

I have billet CenterLines. I never weighed one. I will tell you that lighter wheel like Wayne's Weld drag wheels are only good for drag racing. They are not safe or even approved for road racing or the street. Bad pot hole or curb and they bend. No lateral strength for going around turns

Minus the tire it should be the same for the wheel, trim ring, & center cap. I don't have a bare rim to weigh, but a BFG TA radial w/ RWL in 245/60/15 on the '70 factory steel rim, full of air, with trim ring & center cap weighs 58.1 lbs on my digital bath scale. The only caevaet is that my wife says the same scale says she weighs 119 lbs, BUT she never lets me see the display. Yes I saw the display for the tire/wheel measurement.
