Default Making stock 82 Power steering work with LS1

What lines or adapters or best used to mate the ls1 power steering pump up with the stock 1982 ram cylinder.

(I have no desire for any aftermarket steering btw)

I'm going to be looking into this myself since my PS line blew for the 3rd time yesterday. Trying to do a Vulcan mind-meld between the LS1 PS pressure line and the stock pressure line doesn't seem to work for very long. I haven't analyzed what went wrong this time yet but I'm thinking of buying the tools needed to build some Aeroquip or similar lines. The PS steering system works fine when everything is together and not leaking.

If you can find someone who makes high-pressure hoses (I didn't have much luck) bring both the LS1 and the old hose and see if they can make up a new hose. The return hose is not a problem. IIRC I just used the return hose from the old system and screwed it into the LS1 pump.

I went to a local radiator shop that also makes high pressure hoses.
I mocked up the lenth I needed, marked it up they made the line, $65. Done. No problems so far,

I thought I'd post more detailed directions;

What I did was I bought 2 new pressure hoses, one for my 77 and the other for a 2004 (the year of my LS1) and then I attached the the 77 hose to the lower pressure fitting and the 04 hose to the pump. I matched up the 2 hoses side by side and marked where I needed it to be. Then I took it to the radiator shop and they cut the hose and put the 2 together. It was $65 for that, plus the cost of the hoses.
Hope that helps,
Frank

I don't think either hose (the ls1 one, or the 82 one) are long enough by themselves to reach from the high mount ls1 PS pump all the way under to the hydraulic ram.
Therefore the only thing I can see working is female adapter that would connect the old and new hose or like the other guy did make your own hybrid.
But maybe I am missing someone or someone came out with an aftermarket one.

The LS1 hose won't connect to the control valve and the 82 hose won't connect to the PS pump. I tried to mate the 2 hard lines using flared fittings and adapters but it's not a good solution. Like I said before, I haven't checked yet to see what failed this time (could be the hose, could be the control valve), but I think the best solution is to use AN-type fittings on both the pump and control valve. Hopefully both fittings will have a common hose size like -6.

My longer-term plans involve adding a HydroBoost and Borgeson steering box so I have been trying to Bubba my way through the short term but I may have to spend some extra $ to get hoses that will be reliable for now.

The 82 power steering high pressure fittings are not the same type as the 72 power steering pump fittings.

I used the Aeroquip lines and made them to length and never had any issues with them blowing. If you're having fun with the stocker type blowing, Id try to make your own.

Anyone know the 82 assist ram size or fitting by chance?

Just a heads up, there's apparently an SAE spec for power steering hose. Check out the Speedway links, they carry the adapters, fitting and aeoroquip FC300 hose for about the same price as braided stainless.

Keep it simple, buy both hoses, mark them up, take them to the hose shop, done.

This what you do. Get you corvette pressure line and the ls1 pressure line. Take them to napa and knowing what lenght you need and they will make you a hose using the ends of the hoses your brought. It was only 30 dollars took 10 minutes

One NAPA looked at me like I was dumb and they didn't do such things, the other said they did hydraulic lines but not power steering.

Do they just cut the metal ends off and then re add some rubber part.
Might make as much sense to buy new lines depending. I certainly don't want to reuse the old 82 rubber part of the line.
This is what I need.

If you really think you can have them do it I can just paypal you the money and the lines or just pay you to buy ones down there.

I dont mind helping. But a ps line is a hydraulic line. So try again at the napa that does the lines with the two pieces that you cut off like shown in the picture, and tell them you need a line with those on each end. They will have to use a compression fitting. Try that, if not cut off the peiece and send them to me .
