CORVETTES of WESTCHESTER


I've got an 1970s style LS7 454 Chevy Big Block for sale. It needs pistons.
This is for an 1970s style LS7 454

CRATE MOTOR PURCHASED in 1986.


PRICE $5,000.

The motor is a 12.5:1 compression.

Presently it's fitted with a large roller cam and lifters.

The heads in this auction are BRAN NEW and have never had

valves installed. The part # for these heads is no longer available from GM.

The engine has a few pistons that need to be replaced, however the engine ran

when removed from the vehicle.

The engine comes complete as pictured with ARP head studs, cam and lifters, all tin, and balancer.

We would prefer local pickup, but can palatalize it for a fee.

Buyer pays all costs associated with shipping by credit card or paypal.

We would prefer YOU arranged for shipping.

I've NEVER seen an early engine with "7.4L" cast into the side of it. All of my sources indicate that the 14015445 casting didn't start until 1978.
You say this is an original 1970 model LS7, not a crate engine?
I'm afraid I gotta call BS on this one.
Nothing personal, mind you, but that ain't a 1970 LS7 block - or a 1970 block at all for that matter.

The references I have for this casting number start in 1975 and usual application is in light duty trucks.

Its sure not a '70 block, but GM did sell over-the-counter LS7 engines with the suffix XCH using the 14015445 blocks up to some time in the eighties.

No question..... The engine was purchased some time about 1985 and I only use the "1970" designation to re-affirm the vintage of the motor.

Many people that have contacted me about it in the past (who didn't know the history of the LS7)

thought that it was a 2006 LS7. 1970 places the engine for those that were not aware of it's existence.

This ad stirred the pot because not many people had even heard of such a motor.

I have an LS7 block in my car. It has the suffix XCH. I do not see it on this one. Also looks like the engine was decked and it was possibly removed. I think that is the most important stamp to identify an original LS7. Diehards will want to see this. Those pistons look terrible. This things looks like its been sitting for a while. Yes, I have also never scene a 7.4L stamp.

Why would you think it was decked....?

This engine was not in a production car and that's the reason I show the vin# pad.... It's clean indicating it's never been in a production vehicle.

I hear ya, but the phrase

"It is an original 1970 454 @ 12.5:1 compression!"

is more than a little misleading. There's nothing vintage 1970 about this motor at all. I'm sure you would prefer having a happy buyer.

Chuck-

The deck surface does not look similar to typical broaching marks seen on original blocks. Your photo looks to be more similar to those of a rotary mill, never used in GM production.



The random '8s' stamped on the pad- including one underneath the head location- indicate that the engine has been apart for some type of work on a previous occasion.

No idea about the random 8s...but, as stated in the e-bay auction....

When it was installed in my friends 1970 Vette, we used Aluminum L88 heads which eventually ended up on his 502 BB...

That's why the NEW iron heads were purchased.... To eventually complete the engine.

I'm not representing that the engine was "dated" 1970, but too many people were thinking it was a 2006 LS7 and I wanted to distinguish the generation of the motor.


While I totally appreciate the sharing of tech input for everyone and welcome the input....

The sarcastic posts from guys that want to impress me with their knowledge are just not welcome here.

With the number and size of these detailed pictures, I don't think the seller will mislead any potential seller here. Just from the pictures alone, anyone will easily figure out its a MkIV engine, and if anyone would mix between this engine and a new LS7 engine, then I don't think he even need to get into cars at all!

Maybe re-run the thread and lose the "original LS7" from the title - that's what's causing the stir...
