New Hood Pin Set-Up
I finally ordered and installed my hood pin set-up from Ron @ hoodpins.net I've just hated pulling the hood release handle and feeling the 40+ year old cable strain as it released the latch. Now, I have a performance look and feel! More mods coming ...................

Hello U17,
I haven't been to Morning Maniacs with the Vette yet. The car is up on stands now and will be for a couple of months. I am changing the rear gear, wheels and tires and some other things. As soon as I have it back together I'll hit Morning Maniacs as well as Cars & Coffee (again) and the once in a while car show.

V8Ranger,
Does this work for you? If not check out www.hoodpins.net. These are billet pieces - high quality.

Excellent!
I plan on doing the same thing. Any problems I need to watch out for?
I will be using the locking pins to keep out prying eyes and fingers.
What was the hardest part? TIA

I though about doing that last year but didnt like how the two locations were offset so I passed. Its all personal preference. I do hate the factory set up though. Been locked out of the engine compt due too a failed release cable AND miss aligned hood latches. Took me 3 determined hrs to get it open without breaking crap.

Thanks for the thumbs up!
They are staggered due to the factory pin locations being offset. The GT race cars of the late 60's and early 70's utilized the same locations. I thought of making a mount(s) that would allow me to have them aligned, but the history of using this location on short-hood C3s was too convincing.

There really wasn't a "hard part". The idea of drilling thru your hood was un-nerving but that was it. The thing to watch out for is to predict the installed pin height and set your pins there - too tall and you'll drill the 1/2" hole back too far on the hood. Use something on the tip of the pin to mark the inside of the hood and set it down on the pins. Then drill a pilot hole from that mark, then on to the 1/2"+ hole for the pins, and then on to the scuff plates on the hood. If possible, leave some room on your brackets and scuff plates for adjustment so the pin fits comfortably. If that helps - great.

Looks awesome! The hood pins add a certain "performance" look. Years ago I had a 440-6 Pak Super Bee with a factory lift off hood. It had 4 hood pins - 1 at each corner with no hinges. I like hood pins.

Nice clean install. I love the look of the pins, and I plan to buy some of the cool ones from hoodpins.net when I do the long L88 hood on my '72. I'm not a fan of the offset look though, so I'll have to find an alternative way to mount mine.
Anywhere under the wiper door that would work well? Anyone else got any pics of how they mounted theirs?

ZBRA,
Sorry, I don't have any pics from the under side of the hood. I can tell you that I drilled the scuff plate holes deep so I had a pilot hole from the under side that I used to drill a hole large enough to get the nut on the screw and then a socket.

ZBRA,
If I had a long hood I would have made some brackets that would mount to the panel that separates the wipers from the engine compartment. They wouldn't have been anything fantastic - just some steel bent at 90 degrees.

Am I the only one that is impressed with the sweetness of these two L-88 hood paint schemes? Great job guys!
Where did you find/buy your hoods from?
*****I used to run a 1975 Camaro with a 3.5 inch L-88 hood from Unlimited Products...with locking hood pins.

Snoop,
I wish I could take credit but my hood was on my car when I bought it. The design is similar to the Baldwin paint scheme without the continuation on the top and on the rear. I'm sorry, I don't know the brand.
Thanks for the compliment!
