Radiator Cap Pressure Rating
The radiator that I ordered says to use a 13psi radiator cap with it. Of course the only one I could find was the Be Cool radiator cap that costs $39.00. Would it hurt to run a $9.00 19-21psi radiator cap? What exactly does the this psi rating do?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Radiator Cap Pressure Rating (bence13_33)
Shane,
Thats the PSI at which the cap opens up to release pressure usually to the overfill. I run 16 on mine , no problems. Old Vette caps ran from 13 to 15. Just get a Stant/or such 16 PSI, it'll be fine.

The higher the PSI the higher the point that water will boil. So a higher rated cap is better provided that the rest of the system can handle the pressure. With a new radiator and hoses the only thing to be concerned about is the heater core.
