Default Questions about Dyno results after head change.

This dyno run was to measure the gains attained by adding Edelbrock 6085 heads and Harland Sharp roller rockers.

1. Based on the configuration and the specs of the heads, do these results seem acceptable?

2. The air/fuel ratio seems troubled. Can I assume it is time to tweak the primary jets and rods in my Quadrajet? The red run seems pretty lean looking. What is the ideal air/fuel ratio?

**Bonus question**
How much HP do you think the engine is making before it goes through the TH400 and stock drive line?

Specs: I found out the motor is out of a 78 truck probably 165 hp.

Blue run - small block 350 bored .060 . Headers/muflflers/no cats, Performer manifold, Stock HEI, Elec fan, 882 stock heads, stock cam.

Red run - Same plus Edelbrock 6085 heads - 165cc intake runners, 60cc chambers, 2.02/1.6 valves, Harland Sharp 1.5 roller rockers.
Timing changed from 8 to 12 deg base, spring kit brings 36 deg total in at 2300 rpm. With vac total is about 52 deg around 2400-2600

Thank you for any constructive info you can add.

Can't see the pic, but if it's a truck cam, then I'd imagine it's real high on torque.

Not looking good - I don't think GoogleDocs is going to allow outside linking like that. Can you add something to picasa or share the doc publicly with a link?

What is truly sad is that I used to do computer support for a company who's name rhymes with hell. Anyhow, I hope the graphs show now, and everyone has not lost interest.

VERY different RUN temp&hum ambient conditions

slug motor, slug cam ... then raised compression & got about 14% performance increase ... some of that probably from cooler, denser air. Guessin' around 220-230hp at flywheel.

all in all ... with such diff run conditions ... I question real validity of any comparison ... otherwise, +14% ain't so bad.

165cc runners ain't no sig change from OE ... mated w/ truck cam ... not much potential regardless of head.

suggest spend $100 on cam&lifter kit at summit ie K1103 or k1104

I think the hp output is corrected for ambient conditions, so the comparison shouldnt be too far out of whack.
The proper air/fuel ratio will vary based on what the motor likes, so nobody can tell you the absolute best ratio.
Typically though, at WOT somewhere around 12.5 - 13 is a good number, so you are a bit lean.
I dont think your gain is too bad since you are still running the stock cam. If you get the A/F ratio sorted then you'll likely get even more.

Like you stated, it's lean and will make a few more hp properly jetted. Maybe 10 or so. You're never going to get anywhere with that truck cam.

Thank you for the responses. My next project is the cam. I have the Comp Cam XE268H and will be installing it in this motor.

I bought this cam about 10 years ago when it first came out and have not installed it yet. I figure it is ripe now.

I hope it yields some fair results.
