Default [PICS] My recent Hit & Run Accident

Me and my Dad are doing all the work ourselves with a little help from one of his friends that owns a body shop. Primarily to save us some money. Our insurance would cover it, but my insurance would go up, and I don't want that. It would be cheaper just to pay to fix it myself. I have got several estimates on the damage. Anywhere from $8500+.
Here are some pics of the damage:

I pay 15 bucks a month for full coverage on my vette thru State Farm. I have it as a classic/historical vehicle driving less than 2500 miles.

Well the best quote I have so far is $12000. It happened over a month ago. The cops were on to the guy that did it, but all of a sudden has backed off, and is not doing nothing.

Oh The Humanity! :cry

Seriously, keep pressure on the police to do something, take it to court if you have to. Were there any witnesses?

If I were you I'd report it to the insurance company that's why you pay them. If the rates go up switch companies or get better coverage through a classic car insurance company like Hagerty.

Yeah I was driving the car when I got hit. I was just cruising along, and the guy pulled out, and his whole front end just scraped against my side. Then he kept on going like nothing happened. I called the cops, and they were down at the scene of the accident about 5 minutes later. There was one witness who stopped with me. They told the cops it was a red 90's blazer that hit me. So they started looking, and found one a couple miles away abandoned. It's front bumper was bent and some substance(the cops think it was Pepsi) was poured all over the front bumper. There was also, what the cops believe to be "melted" fiberglass fibers stuck on the blazer's driver side door. They took those for evidence, and they are still being evaluated by the Kentucky State Forensic Center in Frankfort. They said that it would be 3-4 months before we got the samples back. So the cops, questioned a few people, the suspect, the people that was with him, etc. They worked on the case good for about a week and a half, and then just stoped. They pretty much refuse to do anything. My Dad has talked to cheif of police, mayor, etc. and still hasn't got no where. We are in the process of hiring an attorney right now. It's the biggest mess I have ever been in. Hopefully, it will all work out. If not, at least I'll still have my Vette. :D

i don't know why they can't force the guy that hit you to pay for the damage. it seems very logical to me.

He should be forced into the pokie also. He or his parents must have connections, typical corruption.. :mad

Well, his Dad is a big business guy in town, so it's possible. I have thought of that idea before. That is why we are trying to get someone to investigate the local police department, because not only is the officer in charge of the case not doing anything, neither is the police cheif, who my dad has spoke to several times. :mad :mad

It shouldn't cost over $2,000 in my opinion...including paint. the damage doesn't look like it tore any gaping holes, so just building it up with some bondo fiberglass resin, sanding, then painting should fix everything. Looks like about 20 hours of work...thus at $50/hour it would be $1,000 labor, and then about $1,000 for blending in paint on half the car.
