Need help with a hood(scoop) on a '79
Will be starting with the assembly of my 383 soon (ish).
Intend to use a taller intake plus a taller (maybe 3-4") filter.
Ideally would like the Twin Turbo hood but can't afford it. Or choose not to however you look at it. It's either a new hood or a 700R4 and I've chosen the transmission.
So I've been looking at hood scoops. I'm not a total idiot with fiberglass so I think I can get this done. Put a scoop on the original '79 hood and cut out a hole for the portion of the air filter which will stick above the original hood into the scoop. Fabricate some poor mans cold air intake.
Question is which scoop? I like too many; I like the:
Having a hard time making a choice.
Anybody any advise or pics for inspiration?
**** EDIT, finally scored a Twin Turbo Hood ****

Several threads already in here.. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-g...od-scoops.html ... We just cut a hole for the cowl induction scoop on mine.. We did not have to trim, fit ect a whole new hood...

When I saw the front two, the first thing I thought of was a 1971 Mustang Mach 1 Hood. Not the Shelby type hood with the shaker air scoop in the middle, but after they made the body style change to the longer bigger Mustang. Google a 1971 Mustang Mach 1 hood and it will be the same.

I'd like that too but I can't pay for both a new hood and a scoop.
The mach 1 hood
Does anybody know where I might be able to buy the little inverted scoops (NACA ducts) that you see in the picture left and right of the main bulge?
I'm curious as to how that would look left and right of the main bulge on a '79 hood with a stinger of mini L-88 on top

Did you check with Unlimited Products at www.up22.com. They have just about any scoop you could want, including NACA ducts and L-88 styles.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
After looking for two years I finally scored this:
Anybody ever make these NACA ducts somewhat functional?
I'm thinking about rigging something up where either:
Some of the issues I can foresee:
I don't want air buffeting around the carb as that will screw up the mixture. So I need some sort of barrier or flow control.
I'm not sure if uneven cooling of the carb or intake is such a good idea.
How do you prevent rain water from reaching the filter and carb.
Steeper angle? Barrier?

I'm thinking about rigging something up where either:
- both scoops feed an air box around the filter
- one scoop feeds the air box and the other feeds cooler air either on the carb or the intake manifold.

Still I really like that car. It needs blacked out head lights instead of that gold and I'd remove that hood spoiler. Nice dark window tint that car would be evil.
