Vent cables below/above/on side of OEM radio?
Hi,
Finishing up my interior restoration on my 68 roadster. I'm installing a rebuilt vintage radio from a 69 also but are a bit hesitating how GM routed the 4 vent cables around the radio. I have two fresh air door cables and two heater box cables. My car is a non A/C. If anyone has any details on this I would be glad. Below radio, above or along the short sides?
Also, the driver side fresh air door cable seems to be more tucked away if routed above steering column but the AIM clearly points out under steering column. Feels wrong somehow...it seems to hang down if installed under....
Thanks.
Martin

Hi Martin,
Here's a picture of the passeger's side (71, no a/c)... the cable is next to the radio.
The cables are so stiff it seems like they need to lay where they want and everything else has to work around them.
Regards,
Alan

Alan,
Very good picture. Its a tight fit and I'm a bit worried that the plastic hold-down pieces might break, but I did route the passenger side vent cable same as on your car.
Is it possible that you might have a picture of the driver side too - similar view?
Thanks!!

Hi Martin,
Sorry no picture today.
The driver's side cable is in the same relative position, but a little higher..... still along side the radio.
The cable does pass right on top of the steering column in my 71.
Hope that's enough to help!
Regards,
Alan

Helped a lot! No problems with fitting the radio in my car.
Perhaps a bit off topic but I ask anyway:
On the small gauge cluster backside there is a capacitor with a flat thin spade connector, I suppose should be connected somewhere. Any ideas?
Also, on my cable harness the clock connector is a spade type conector, but my clock has only a threaded stud. Do I miss something there?
Thanks.
