Default HELP - Exhaust on metal causing drone noise

I have a 76 L82 with exhaust pipes that touch metal on the car (no rubber). I know this is not good and i think this is causing "drone" noise inside the cabin.

Notice one picture shows a little rubber but the other one shows no rubber at all.

Problem is i don't know how to fix this. What do i use to correct the problem? I don't want to have to replace the exhaust if possible.

Thanks

is it a true dual exhaust car or is it the the 2 into the cat then back out to 2?

most "droning" is from true duals with no h or x pipe

Sorry meant to say no cat, x or h pipes.

But don't you think the vibration from an exhaust pipe bolted right to the frame is going to cause a droning issue? Maybe that should be resolved before spending any money on an X or H pipe?

What brand mufflers are on the car? Stock or performance?

I can't see for sure but the 2nd pic looks to be a normal mount, the bracket itself is mounted to the rubber trans mount.

they are dynomax super turbo mufflers. Considered second from the quietest.

The first pic shows rubber. On the second pic, there is no rubber at all. Doesn't look right to me.

What Roger is saying is that bracket the exhaust is bolted to with the U-bolt in the second photo, is mounted to the frame through the rubber transmission mount. Standard C3 mount. The first photo looks suspect. After the transmission mount, the next mount is behind the mufflers and those are rubber isolated too, or they should be.

ahh ok. Thanks for the clarification. I didnt realize there was any rubber involved with the second picture showing the exhaust clamp.

So maybe I need an X or H pipe to ge trid of the drone?

Think I might hit a local custom exhaust shop, have them look and listen.

Thanks Pete

Sakins, while the 2nd pic mount appears to be a standard mount the exhaust pipe does need to go through the hole in the frame without the pipe touching the frame. Just make sure your pipes sorta free float from the frame. (the 1st pic looks like the mount is far more restrictive than the factory mount)
I usually take my fist and just bump the pipes front to back to see if they are free floating.
If the pipe in the 2nd pic is clearing the frame you might try removing the 1st pic mount and then drive the car and listen for drone.
Sometimes just loosening all mounts and realigning will remove exhaust noises.
Good luck

the h pipe or x pipe will make the drone go away and give improved low end torque. just google h and x pipes and you will become a believer.
