Default Corvette Motor Mounts ??????

In every chevy vehicle with a small block (excluding corvette) that I have ever seen, they all have had basically the same motor mounts. All of them mount on a flat surface with three or four bolts. but the mounting locations on my corvette are quite small with one elongated bolt hole in the middle. are they all this way? why so? where can i get new motor mounts?

thanks, chris

Any of the auto stores should carry them. There basically cheap. I myself installed a solid motor mount on the drivers side. The reason = My original was old/worn. When I gave gas to the engine, it would lift making the fan hit the shroud. When I purchased new ones, to me they looked weak. I did not want to do the job twice. So I brought them back and got the solids. But Like I said before I only installed one on the drivers side. Now no mater how much gas I give it the motor does not lift! And I do not feel any vibrations at all.

I'm not a fan of solid motor mounts. I used one brand of solid motor mount and was fortunate to discover after a year that the left side mount (which is in tension at WOT) had started to crack (about 3/4" long) and was just short of failure. Never again!

You should put the solid motor mount on the other side too, it really stiffens up the front end, you will notice a difference. And there is no more vibration than normal, I had solids on my 550HP 406ci with a fairly radical street solid roller cam and loved them.

Moroso makes solid motor mounts I would not hesitate to use

Motorhead is right, you need to use both solid mounts together or you have one side of the engine trying to move against the solid mount and well you see you got a cracked mount.

on a recent motor changeout for my 80 model i picked up a pair of new (rubber - NOT solid) mounts at autozone for $9.99 each. to my surprise they are normal stock items so they MUST fit other cars besides the Corvette.

They are not hard to find, you can get rubber or poly or solid

Thats what I have Moroso. I have not installed the other side because at the time it was a Bit_h to get to.

Anyone see these new heavy duty correct mounts from Corvette Central. I was thinking of replacing my original mounts with these. Anyone use them?

I'm also curious myself about these mounts from CC. Anyone have anything good/bad to say about them?

I just ordered a set of motor and tranny mounts from Summit. I got the energy suspension ones. They are poly and the locking style.

My stock rubber 30 year old mounts let go and took the left side exhuast manifold to pipe flange with it.

I went to the parts store ans they had the motor and tran mounts in stock (i think 10 or 11 for the motor mounts and 11 or 12 for the trans mount) so I bought them and got my motor in. At the time when I originally looked at the motor mount brackets, I didnt see the hole that the bolt actually goes through side to side. So I thought there was some goofy mount that a bolt running vertical through the mount. Brain Fart!!!!

Thanks for all the help and pictures!! I love this site!

I used a solid pass side and stock drivers on my 68 camaro for years np, doing the same on my vette. Same exact mount I used on the camaro a moroso, still got the 2nd of the pair new on the shelf. Mount looked fine after few hundred 12sec runs and hard driving with 450hp and slicks.

Well if you can justified doing only one side so be it, but why would one ever want to put the solid mount on the non lifting side of the engine only is just plain weird!

um I'm pretty sure the motor lifts on pass side and compresses on drivers. When looking at the front of your engine the crank rotates clockwise. It's weird because I just googled it and seems most do drivers. Lets see when my buddy chained his truck(pass side) it was too lose at 1st and the chain would jerk and clank, until he tightened it. On my mustang with a motorplate the front pass would twist and lift the front pass tire until I got the subframe conectors in. When I rev my engine with stock mounts I can see the engine torque/rotate towards the drivers side.

The motor lifts on the drivers side. This is the mount that is under tension and usually fails. If you were to put in only one solid mount, this would be the one. I changed one mount in my '79 a year or two ago because it failed. When it happens you will know it because the fan makes a goshawful noise when it hits the shroud under hard acceleration. I bought the heavy duty mounts, but they just turned out to be poly. Even though I just changed one, there was a noticeable increase in vibration. Not terribly objectionable, but very noticeable. I suspect the solid mounts would be even worse, although I've never used them.

I have a 1976 C3 Corvette. I live in rural Australia and purchased a new set of engine mounts from Rockauto Parts. The problem I have now have is that the fan just hits the bottom of the shroud. Anybody had this problem and what's the cure. Due to my location I am left to my own devices to try and fix this. I am going to try and shim the mount.
