Default '71-'72 with L48 (350), A/C, 4-spd -what upper radiator hose p/n?

I bought an upper radiator hose from Carquest (P/N 20809 made by Gates) to replace the old one on my '72 vette. Only problem is it appears to be about 1 1/2" short (see attached pic).
Carquest insists that this is the correct hose for my application ('72-L48-4-speed with A/C).
I understand that I have an aftermarket alum radiator but the inlet is the same length as the orig radiator. The original painted p/n on the hose are gone and the stamped numbers don't mean anything to the counter guy at Carquest, For those of you with '71-'72 vettes equipped as mine (L48-4speed-A/C), what brand-p/n are you using for the upper radiator hose? Thanks

Shot in the dark here, but you might try Paragon. They list p/n 2230 for 1969-E76 Upper radiator hose, all S.B. w/copper radiator. #3946852 & GM logo.

My experience was that none of the big-box auto parts stores had the correct upper radiator hose. I would get an upper hose from one of the forum vendors like DeWitt's so you know you are getting a correctly sized and shaped hose.

I think the after market radiator outlet location might be the cause.

3946852 is the correct p/n for that hose and most vendors have that hose. Im running a '73 L48 with air and a stock rad. and that hose fits like a glove.

Good Luck

I finally found my GM parts book and they show 3 upper hoses for '71-'72 350 vettes:

p/n 3935466 '71-'72 Corvette w/4-spd (350) (exc. Sp H/Per C.A.C)

p/n 3946852 '71-'72 Corvette w/C.A.C. (350)
"""""""""""""" '71-'72 Corvette w/SP. H/Per. (350) (Exc. H.D. 4-spd)
"""""""""""""" '71-'72 Corvette w/A.T. (350)

p/n 3997761 '71-'72 Corvette (H.D. 4-Spd w/SP H/Per) (350)

According to Carquest, the Carquest/Gates p/n 20809 crosses over to the GM p/n 3946852. The Gates p/n 20809 hose is 19.6 inches long.

I wonder if the GM p/n 3935466 is the correct hose for my '72. I put this hose on the car some 8 years ago and it came from one of the local parts stores, not from GM or a Corvette vendor. So at least a longer hose existed at one time. I'll see if Carquest can cross reference the #466 hose tomorrow.

Looks like they cut the hose too short. Take it back and compare it to other identical hoses they may have. If all the same, go somewhere else. It is shaped correctly but shorter than the one you have. What brand is your existing hose? By the way, what's wrong with the one you now have?

Looks good to me. I can see a part number on it. Get another like the one you're currently using.

The AIM will list the part number for the original hose, but that is not likely to help you with CarQuest.

That is what I thought but Carquest lists this hose at 19.6" and that is what it measures at. Current hose is 11 years old and getting soft. Unfortunately any painted parts numbers/brand have disappeared. Most likely a Gates though.
