Default L-48 Summit Racing Cylinder Head Combo Advice

First engine pull/First Engine Rebuild... I just bought a 79 vette that needs some love under the hood. I'm planning on picking it later in the summer when I get back from detachment. Would like to start getting some gear together to get the engine in good working order.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SME-K-400-390/ I came across this and was curious about your opinion if it's A.) Worth the money and B.) what kind of horsepower gain i'm looking at out of this engine. I see there's some chart connected in there and it saying like 300+ hp But i don't think it's that much. Advice would be appreciated thanks.

FYI
OE L48 has dished, low compression pistons.
64cc heads will hardly make 9:1 ... 62cc not much more.

suggest look at OE GM alum heads per L98 or ZZ4.
GM p/n 12556463. GM c/n 10088113.
58cc chambers. Depending on gasket, OE L48 w/58cc will make 9.5 to 10:1. Shop around, good deals on both new & used.

IMHO, most kits are a compromise. Rarely is every component the best choice. I don't mean buy the priciest; buy the best match for YOUR needs.

Check out CompCams website and download their desktop Dyno program. It is free and lets you input specific flow numbers for the heads and select your engine info and helps you select the right cam for your application.. it will give you a decent estimate for your HP and TQ ratings

That free s/w isn't worth the time to download.

I have seen it recommended my numerous CF members..... What makes you say that and what alternative do you recommend ...
Like anything else in life if you want to complain you are better off to present a solution and contribute...

I use Engine Analyzer and yes the comp s/w is worth exactly what you pay for it.

To the OP, I would certainly take Jackson's advice and look for heads with smaller combustion chambers and don't get sucked into buying a magical kit of go fast parts.

I've never used any engine dyno software besides Cam Quest, but if are just trying to compare one Comp cam to another Comp cam, it's probably worth using. From what I have heard, the numbers it generates aren't very accurate, but if you are just using it to decide what cam to buy, it will be equally inaccurate on each example, allowing you to compare one cam to another. This is purely conjecture on my part, not based on anything scientific. Another nice thing about the Cam Quest software is that they offer a "Double Your Money Back" guarantee!!!
