decided on ZZ4--NOS?
going with the ZZ4--headers, chambered exhaust (modified enough to put my cats on), now i want to run a 125 hp boost NOS. according to everything i've been reading, as long as i don't go over 150hp shot i don't have to do anything special to the motor----correct?

150 shot is pretty big...Personaly, I wouldn't spend 4k on a ZZ4 just to feed N20 into it and replace the rings sooner than expected. 150 shot is pretty big, with a 10.0:1 compression detonation will probably be something to worry about. Id just get a crane power max roller cam and throw it into it...There's a guy running 12.9's with a 4 speed and a Hot Cam.
But, if you do decide to run N20. Get the good forged N20 pistons. There rings are moved down lower on the piston. It's helps keep them alive some how.

125 is a good sized shot. I have heard of people using 125 on stock ZZ4's but I wouldnt personally go that high.
I kinda eyeing up a 75 shot myself.

Its not easy tho....ive only hit it once, but am expecting it more once I get used to my new centerforce clutch and holley carb. However, ifg you look down to my signature, youll see what im adding :D
but I am only going to shoot 100HP, maybe 125 at the most, and I am going to run a lot of safety precautions...like the jacobs nitrous mastermind, fuel pressure safety switch, oil pressure safety switch.
I agree with Aaron though...the HOTCAM is definitely worth the $$ and would suggest this before the NOS, especially if you have a 4spd, cause you dont want to miss a shift and blow your motor while shooting nitrous if you dont have MSD window switch or jacobs box
if you go with nitrous....do it safe!
its like sex.....its addicting but can be dangerous..use protection

I have just recieved a ZZ-5 (that's what I call it) It's a 385 Fastburn. That is a ZZ-4 with a set of Vortec heads and intake making 385 HP. The shortblock is the same ZZ-4.
The next step is to put on 1.6 Crane Gold Roller Rockers which turns it up to 410 HP. This is where I'm going to go to.
Or you can add the Hot Cam and the Roller Rockers and go to the ZZ-430 at 430 HP.
The fastburn was about $500 more than the ZZ-4. I bought mine for $4125 at a local dealer last week,$100 over dealer cost. The roller rockers are about $300 and make it a whopping 410 HP. I think that should do me very nicely. If not, then there is always the new Hot Cam to look forward to and 430 HP. JIM

Yep I'd be scary of going that big. And as 74Vette pointed out you'd be good to have some controls for the nitrous. I have a buddy that has a stroked 396 in his 94 that gets 11s w/o his nitrous shot. Anyway he has the piston in his garage from last summer...when he blew it with nitrous...burned a whole right through it....he made sure he went back with nitrous pistons during the winter rebuild.

Re: decided on ZZ4--NOS? (ZORA_RULES)
Just drop the zz4 in first, break it in and try a few hole shots. I bet the car scares the crap out of you enough to not worry about no2. :p:

I was planning to put NOS on my ZZ4. But I wanted to break it in first before I bolted it on. I then learned the ZZ4-355hp was good enough for me without the extra shot. Plenty of HP and Torque. :yesnod:

Put the mufflers at the end of the exhaust where they are less restrictive. Chambered is not rec. for performance. Don't worry about nitrous now or rec. build for it.

Re: decided on ZZ4--NOS? (Ganey)
well, i was mistaken--it was 125hp shot that they say i don't have to do anything----i was planning on running the safety do-ma-jiggies (thats do-MA-jiggies guys, not do MY jiggies!!)...anyways, i guess i can think about NOS next year after i break in my motor. i guess it's a chick thing "just hafta shop" :seeya

Re: decided on ZZ4--NOS? (erika1977)
I'm running a 100 shot on mine without any problems. I started with 50 and it was not enough on the top end. At the bottom end is another story. Do not expect to juice a ZZ-4 out of the hole. The motor stock will blow the tires stock and with as little as 50 shot it will blow them as fast as you can react.
Also note if I was running a non-TPI motor, I would not juice it. TPI motors flatten out above 4500 rpms and it help me even the playing field.

My friend has an S-10 pick up with a ZZ4 with the hot cam kit. He is running a 150 hp nitrous and goes 1/4 mile at a time. his truck is running 10.5 in 1/4 mile and he has 3 seasons on the engine with no problems.

I love you car.
I was thinking a ZZ4 with a Crane Power max roller cam. A set of 1.6:1 gold rollers and porting the heads a little bit. But that's money I don't have.
