Default 350 Rebuild Setup

Hey Guys,

Today I'm gonna talk to a mechanic who is gonna help me choose parts for my 350 Rebuild.

I'm putting this setup up so you guys could tell me what you think and give me some advice.

So far this is what I got:

1. Camshaft:
Comp Cams:
http://www.compperformancegroupstore...Code=K12-422-8

2. Heads:
GMPP Vortec heads
http://sdparts.com/details/gm-perfor...parts/25534421

3. Headers:
Summit Racing Full-Length

4. Pistons:
4.030 Hypereutectic two-valve Relief

5. Carburetor
Rebuilt Q-Jet

6. Intake Manifold:

What do you guys think?

Thanks

I would try a different intake. The intake you selected is for a square bore carb and you would need an adapter plate to run the q-jet. Additionally, what are your goals for this engine? Are you building a drag race engine? The intake is also geared for mainly upper rpm use.

Additionally, what year block are you using? I did not look at the cam kit that hard, but is it a retrofit roller?

I want this car to have a more than 300 HP....I would love to have 350.

However, It will most likely be an everyday car and i want the car to run on all pump gases.

Other than that I want this car to be a beast

I'll check out some more intake manifolds

I think this Intake Manifold will do the trick:

cool, you should be able to get that easy. I would suggest looking at the Edelbrock intakes. They make a RPM air-gap vortec.

I have been working on an engine design using the large port version of those heads and a similar setup.

I've looked into the Edelbrock Intakes previously. The problem with them is that the only one that fits the L-48 Hood is the Performer.

I believe the intake you want to use is the EDL 2116 and save some money over the GM piece. They have the same RPM range. Its that or switch to a Holley and run a Perfomer RPM, LT1 or Stealth intake.

I believe it will fit with a drop base air cleaner.

The EDL 2116 Intake seems perfect for the build...However, I have the stock L-48 hood. I would have to change my hood to make it fit right?

So with the drop base air cleaner i could fit the stock air cleaner with the engine and still use my stock hood?

Use an aftermarket drop base aircleaner and it will clear the hood just fine. I ran a Holley Streetmaster (LT-1/Z-28) high rise intake clone and it cleared my '78 hood fine.

S1NE5TER,
I have the performer intake on mine with an eldebrock carb and I am using a 1 1/2 drop base filter. Had to bend it a little because it would hit the electric choke on one side and the throttle cable bracket on the other. just little bends on the underside you can't see. e-mail me at dangoodva@yahoo.com and I will send you a couple to try.
79 L-48. Cam (not sure what), headers and the eldebrock 600cfm carb.

how many inches of a drop would i need for the Edelbrock Performer Vortec Intake Manifolds (EDL 2116)?

Also, sorry if this is a dumb question, what size should the base be?

14 in. or 16 in. Diameter?

Thanks

Yep. I know some folks use the L-88 drop base.

A L88 drop base works fine on a Holley but I think you may have problems on a Q-jet. I tried one on my '76, it hits the throttle and automatic trans cable.

I ended up using an Edelbrock air cleaner for the '76 with the Q-jet.

I am going to have to take a good look at mine. I thought the base I had for my stock air cleaner and the L88 based I ordered looked the same. They might have some minor difference I missed. Either way the stock 1971 350 air cleaner base is a drop base that looks almost identical to the L88.

Hey Guys,

I just came back from a shop that specialize in performance restorations.

The mechanic told me that I should instead of rebuilding my own engine, Swap it with a carbureted LS engine.

He told me that if i decide to do that he could hook me up with an LS block and an Entire Rebuild Kit with it.

I'm Researching info for the Swap and so far I'm leaning towards it. however, I'm not sure of price ranges for this swap and extra details that I'm missing that are essential for this swap.

Can you guys Help me out?
