a while ago the speedometer in my 77 quit working. i thought the odometer and trip meter were still working but they are not. where would be a good place to start working on it without removing the speedometer?

If nothing is working on it I would start by checking that the cable is connected properly in back of guage and on transmission. Also check that inner shaft is turning as car moves.

Cruise control drive would be the place to start for a quick check. When the whole thing quits, it is usually the drive gear, the cruise transducer, or a cable.

I have had problems with all 3 on various cars, never seen an actual speedometer go bad, although I guess it happens.
