Default BB block owners, Need some help. Have pics

I recently took my 427 out of my 68 to clean and paint everything. Right now i'm in the process of putting everything back together and found a major bubba violation. In my picture of the 427 block the hole that the arrow is pointing to, currently has a broken bolt in it, I'm in the process of removing it. My question is.. how does the power steering bracket clear the drain plug that sticks out a half inch when installed?

Post a picture of the plug you're using. IIRC you need a recessed hex pipe plug

like these

Maybe I'm comparing apples to oranges but my original small block from my '69 has a similar plug on the front of the camshaft oil gallery. You can see it below the intake manifold and above the water pump.

So FWIW, the General did use that type of plug in some applications. I hope this is helpful and not a distraction.

Thanks Pete, I thought the hex flush plugs were too modern to be original so at this point I think I have the original plug but still not sure how is clears the bottom of the p/s bracket.

This is the plug that was installed at the factory (allen head pipe plug like Jim showed above). I have no idea why you have the type you do.

There's no explaining Bubba But a real Bubba would have drilled out the back of the bracket to make it fit and allow the plug to poke a hole in the back of the power steering pump, then he'd take it out dent it with a hammer and plug it up with JB Weld leaving it to leak for eternity

A good machine shop would remove that plug- it's the oil galley for the main bearings. If the plug is not removed, how well did they clean the internal oil passages in the block?

I found a hex recessed plug at Autozone today. Thanks for the info, I guess my engine was rebuilt along the way at some point and a machine shop stuck a different plug in.
