Default new radiator advice

I need a new radiator and am on a budget. I have a 74 sb with light mods. Was wondering if one of the aluminum rads they have on ebay would suffice. The hood is off so installation should not be that bad.

Yes they will work fine , but before they are done with you on here you will take out a second mortgage on the house and buy a dewitts or else!

It will be less perfect than a Dewitts, but should work fine, maybe minor fitment issues.

If you're looking to keep it factory appearing I would recommend a 4 row from Advance Auto Parts. I bought one for $239 and installed it myself. My 82 runs nice and cool. DeWitts makes a great radiator, though, if you must have an aluminum one.

I would go a 2 core radiator, the thick the radiator is its actually harder to cool. I would go with stock replacement or a 2 core alumimun.

Just suck it up and get the DeWitts aluminum radiator. When I have to bite the bullet and buy something expensive, I just let a few months go by without spending anything on my car.

Right now I'm in a holding spending pattern for my car. I just spent about $4400 on rear suspension parts from Tom's. So I'll have to go about a minimum 5 or 6 months on not spending anything to make up the $4400.

Which would cool better, a 2 row with dual fans or a 3 or 4 row with no fans?

I have a Northern aluminum radiator that came with the car. Also has dual Spal fans.
I dont have the car running yet but I'm going to use it and see how it works b4 I go and buy something else.
Seems like the DeWitts is like 40-50% higher pricewise, I was looking into them. The Spal fans cost a good bit of $$$ but that aside-I really dont think $500ish is really so way out there. It's an important piece and if it cost $200 more than an ebay special I think it's worth the $$. If I had no radiator right now, I'd probably buy the Dewitts. It's a good quality product, all made in house and it it SHOULD cost more.

But the ebay special is just as good, so for $200 your buying a name that vette owners insist you buy or your vette isn't as good as theirs.
I posted up above a 4 core for $244 you can't beat it.
I have bought 4 of these "Ebay specials" and haven't had any problems at all other than water temp is too cold sometimes.
But some people have lots of money and don't care to stimulate the economy all by themsleves so thats alright by me if they do everybodies part and I save money.

In case anyone missed this write up, here is the thread

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...y-dewitts.html

*What do carborator fuses, muffler bearings, and 2-3-4 core radiators have in common?
*Paul was sapposed to contact me regarding his challange but never did.
*Ebay links are not allowed per CF rules.

Just because something cost more doesn't mean you are pissing your money away if there is added value. That value may be different for one guy to the next but if you think the china cores produced with the same quality as ours, you are wrong. We buy them, we cut them open, we inspect the whole thing.

Read this next statement real slow and careful if you think I'm full of BS....
No C3 needs an aluminum radiator...
Why? Because C3 radiators are huge compared to any other Vette era and the copper units are plenty of radiator to do the job. Now, when you upgrade to an aluminum radiator, even a crappy one, it's going to cool your car just fine. Maybe not as good as it could but adding 10-20% more cooling to what was already good enough will be fine. So buy the ebay unit if you are tight on cash but don't fool yourself into thinking you got the same thing.

What I view as "added value" is....

*knowing where and how it's made.
*reputation and longevity in the market
*before and after sale support
*Forum sponsor

Our standard warranty is two years but we will never turn you away for free repairs. I've fixed radiators that were 5-6 years old or when the installer poked a hole in the core. I have exchanged radiators that people didn't even buy from us for a different model or option. We will modify the radiator if you change your mind on options or converstion and we've never charged anyone. To me, this added value is piece of mind and you will not get that from any ebay vendor.

Theres a way to eliminate the competition!!!!

*knowing where and how it's made.
I don't care

*reputation and longevity in the market
How do you know the other guy hasn't been selling for awhile???

*before and after sale support
They got a guarantee, and shouldn't need support if they are built to fit.

*Forum sponsor
You wouldn't have much of a business if you didn't and would have to go on ebay also
What im getting at is, Does your rads have $500 worth of work in them or does some of the money cover the above in black print, because im buying a radiator for my car and you being a forum sponsor doesn't make it work better.

4 core brass Rad. worked just fine in my 75.

I don't believe aluminum Rads. cool any better than brass ones plus the brass ones are a lot easier to fix in the middle of no where.

I paid right at $400.00 for one at a local shop in March.

Pretty happy with it.

Ralph
