Default LS2 teaser

I get about 5 minutes every six days to work on this, so this has been a very slow project. I hope to complete the motor in the days to come and get my trans ordered from monster transmission this week if I can find a few minutes to do so. I am hoping to drop it into the vette in a couple of weeks but I will have to drop a few other projects to make that happen, to many things going on in my world right now.

Here's a little teaser of the LS2, I will post some details here soon.

Hi r,
I hate to admit that I know very little about engines beyond my little 350/270, BUT, I do know a nice looking engine picture!!!!
Well Done!
I second the vote for Chevy orange too!
Regards,
Alan

Some details, I bought this LS2 last fall. It's from a 2008 SS Trail Blazer with only 6,800 miles on it. These motors come from the factory with about 400 HP which is great, but I can't leave well enough alone so I wanted 500+ HP. Let me start out by saying this swap is already beyond my original budget, But if I receive the performance and reliability that I am expecting from this LS swap, It will be worth it.

Here are some of the parts that I have to this date,

Trick Flow Specialties TFS-K306-550-470 - Trick Flow® 550 HP GenX® Top-End Engine Kits for GM LS2
http://www.trickflow.com/partdetail....0&autoview=sku

Heads, cam, rockers, push rods, head gaskets, head bolts, crank bolt,

Trick flow double roller timing chain

46# fast fuel injectors

Professional performance fuel rail kit

LS2 Corvette intake/ I might be swapping it out for the Fast LSX manifold,
Just don't know if there is enough HP gain for so much money.

Vette Aid Long tube headers

F body oil pan

I hope to get to finish the rest of the motor by the end of the weekend. I will be ordering a new 4L65E from monster trans this week I hope, and once I have a final dissection on it it well be time to send off my harness and Ecm to either Current performance or to spear tech. Once I have the harness back onto the motor I will be dropping it into the car.

I have so much going on for the next few months I believe there will be some
delays in getting this finished as fast as I would like to see it get done.

Look for more photo's here soon

Riggs.

Thanks Guys,

It had to be orange, I am trying to keep some of the Old School appeal to the engine compartment.

Riggs, I like the stance of yer car. Looks cool with the white and the chrome wheels.
What engine do you have in there now? More pics as you progress. Good luck. Budget,... what is that??

Great looking project, Riggs. The anticipation can be grueling and you know the investment will pay off handsomely when complete.

Thanks for sharing. Look forward to more pics. Keep up the fine work.

I really haven't had time to make any progress this weekend other than doing some more detailing on the used parts to be reinstalled

Here are a few more photo's

Trick Flow head and cam kit for LS2. Old cam shown in photo, got ahead of myself before I remembered to take some photo's. The timing chain was bought separate.

Double roller timing chain. I order to use one of these you most clearance the timing cover. With the new timing chain assembly it spaces the oil pump out by like 3/16'' making the cover rest on the oil pump mounting bolts and part of the pump.

Fuel rails to feed the new fast 46# injectors

F body oil pan

Ceramic coated 1 3/4'' headers for LS C3 swap

More photo's to come soon.

Not familiar with "Vette Aid" headers. Where did you get them? Look like F-body headers available from Summit???

I did find the Vette Aid website and their headers...but, still look like Hookers available for much less $$$. Why did you choose these, advantages?

Default Love it!

Riggs,

I love the look. I am green with envy.

The orange looks great. The Trick Flow name machined into the heads is a nice detail too. You may want to get a small paintbrush and fill in those letters with some more chevy orange or black to make it really stand out. Just a suggestion.

Keep the photos coming.

Evershark, through My research I believe that the F body headers fit into the car but they have an odd bend at the collector
making it tough to pipe in the exhaust through the cross member. several people have used them, but why bother with that
when there is a set on the market that fit correctly.

Thanks, that's why I asked. Have messed with headers and exhaust sys enough to know it's easier if the headers are made for the year/make/model of car.
OK...so how did your know the Vette Aid headers would fit well/better? Did the supplier have dimensions or someone else used them??

Appreciate any and all feedback. I'm in the middle of an LS swap with body off and want to put on the headers before I put the body back on.

I spent a ton of time reading to find the info about the f-body headers, and almost went that route before finding the
www.Vetteaid.com headers. I have not fit these header into the car yet but they look just like the small block headers
that are on the old 355 in the car now.

The Vette Aid headers are the Melrose headers that Speedhound and I worked on. Since Trey closed his business I picked up those headers as well as Vette Aid and one other supplier. Vette Aid gets a pretty penny for them. If you call me and tell me that you are a forum member I can get you a good deal on them.

I am also working on a set of 1 7/8" stainless headers but they are months from being available.

Riggs the setup looks great!

Thanks for the reply. They look great, but, as said, they're a pretty penny at almost 2X the Hookers. Maybe I'll call Custom Image for a better deal?? I've tried their email and it doesn't work.

Well I am ready to get this LS swap started. The motor is ready to be droped into the car after a few little details (mostly steam lines and water pump/heater hose fittings) and the new transmission should be here in a couple of weeks, harness and computer is being sent out to be reworked next week, time to pull out the old drive train an do some clean up and detailing. I though I would share these photo's to give an up date to the thread.

I will start a new thread when I do the swap, hopefully soon.

Well I received my 4L70E today from www.finishlinetrans.com .
Great looking piece, From the research I have done these Guys really know what they are
doing with the GM transmissions, I hope so this setup has cost me a pretty penny.

I also have the 3200 Stall from yank performece and the TCI flex plate from Summit Racing.
Now I am waiting for my Harness, ECU, and TCU to show up then I have to make time
to get this all into the car.

Great looking stuff, should really be sweet when you get it all back together. I've been thinking about black for my LS-1/4L65e set up but your project has sold me on the orange. I may have missed but what paint did you use and did it take any special surface prep. Thanks and keep the reports coming.
